Morning, actually no sorry, afternoon all!

Could I trouble you for some grammar advice, please?

This quotation;

“The Deccas stand out by infusing their mod sounds
with a touch of Motown and Mersey...could
just as easily be described as "The Way Music Should Be"

Now the whole paragraph is obviously a quote, but the bit at the end is that classed as a quote too and so needs quotation marks (as it's being "described") or should it have apostrophes around it. I ask, because the next question is, do I then have two quotation marks at the end to close both quotes as such?

English advice much appreciated smile

Thanks!
Tony

I think 3.

Single Pair of marks for 'The Way Music Should Be'
Double for a quote

Therefore you put a single to end the description and a double to end the quote.

I have no qualifications to answer this question

I like The Way Music Should Be without the quotes. If it's not a quote or paraphrase then leave the marks out.

Are either of them actual quotes from a human?

"The Decca's - a band from the Medway towns, not to be missed. Buy one of their CD's and get a free Wham Bar* "

There you go Tony - free write up.

Hehe thanks chaps. No no, The Deccas is the name of the band - so no apostrophe needed. The Deccas' album would have one, but not the quote above.

So, urmmm, I'm glad we've cleared that up! As Craig says - if anyone wants to order our album from PH (for £5!) just go to www.thedeccas.co.uk and say you're from PH and yup - you get a FREE WHAM BAR!!!

What's not to like. Or, to look at it another way, Wham bar for a fiver with a free album!

Not forgetting the original 'My ears are alight' by Desmond Dekker...obviously an inspiration - nice bongos Tony!

Ordered - don't forget the Wham bar...

Any particular reason why "The Way Music Should Be" uses capital letters? If it's not the title of an album or something then surely the quote should be:
said:
"The Deccas stand out by infusing their mod sounds with a touch of Motown and Mersey...could just as easily be described as 'the way music should be'."
Depending on the context, there should perhaps be a period before the final quote mark. read

You're quite correct: theres no reason for the capitalisation, thats simply how the quote was written about us.

This is going on a flier - on the back we have some select quotes from people. I don't have a full stop after any ofthempurely because it looks better. I'll upload the flier for you so you can se the context. Thanks for the thoughts smile

2 fliers but same writing, you can see the idea behind it now. I left out the full stop at the end of each quote just because it looked slightly more natural (in my eyes smile )

Ahh - that makes sense.

It looks as though the "The Way Music Should Be" is italicised on those flyers, which suggests it's the title of something, in which case the capitalisation is understandable. thumbup

It is italicized but I'm not sure it should be. Its not the title of the album or anything, it's just a title that the quotee believes we should be. Does that make sense?

Sorry for the specifics, but this one puzzled me and so wanted to make sure it's right smile
