Fans stopped working

Well guys, i've got it... and it's broken already. Fans were working when I collected it, remember the noise of them!

On the way home, was running at 100-115 and when I stopped the fans weren't on. Any ideas?

Where are these and how do I check them?

That's quite hot ( I assume you were running at 100-115 degrees and not 100-115 mph ! ). I don't think I've ever need mine get hotter that 90, and the fans will be on then.

The fuses are in the passenger footwell, you should see a little pully bit of material. There is a row of 12 vertical fuses above the relays. Above that 12 are two horizontal fuses, the radiator one is the bottom one of those two, it's a 10A one.

Is it a 2.5, if it is then there is a fan switch on the drivers side front pipe going into the rad (just in front of the fan) I used to go through them all the time (no my ecu control the fans).

If it is a 2.5 then if you remove the two wires from the sensor and short them together then the fans should come on, if not then maybe a fuse.

Looking at the build manual the fuse mentioned above is a 40 amp one that provides the power to the fans. There is a smaller fuse - the last but one vertical item on the RHS that provides power to the relays that turn on the fans. It`s worth checking both fuses. It`s unlikely to be a relay if neither fan works unless both have failed together. (They are the two LH relays in the middle row).

I've just checked my owner's manual again - yep, the relays are as you say, middle row, 2 left hand ones. The last but one relay on the RHS is described as "Heating, Ventilation and Air Con". All of the fuses are rated as either 10 or 7.5 A. The chances of a relay failing are slim compared to a fuse blowing.

A fan would not be pulling anything like 40A. The 40A fuse may distribute power to lower powered circuits, in which case if that had gone, I would think a lot more would not be working as well as the rad fans.

Update! Replaced the 40A fuse and all is well! We're getting a LOT of looks in it ATM argffh we just hit dual carrigeway and it's hard to write on an iphooooooone... TSH

Well the two new fuses have gone, and the driver's side rad fan looks to have died, smoking and smelling like burnt plastic... Hmm. Any ideas?

Buy a new fan, replace fuses?

Hello!

Yeah so it turns out one of the fans had seized, but since they're just both linked together it blew the fuse for both fans.

New fan going to be ordered, and we're going to change the wiring to have an inline fuse for each fan. We think the fan wiring is pretty crap actually, did they change it on the later cars?
