have a V series 42" Panasonic HD telly which has an amazing picture but pretty crappy sound.

Is there a good value option that would hook up to my PS3, a Sky+HD box, and give substantially better sound than i currently have.

Don't need to listen to music on the system as i have a good Hi-Fi setup (well its good enough)

Well since you have a PS3, you don't need a complete all-in-one system, just an amp and speakers.

A bit more than your budget, but great value.......... Onkyo HTS3305

I would recommend the Logitech Z-5500.

Slightly over budget but I have impressed everyone I have demo'd the system to, including a couple of well off mates who have systems that cost in the thousands!

I have my Sky HD box, Xbox 360 & HTPC all plugged in & it works perfectly.

Connect the audio-out of the TV to your existing hi-fi? Stereo only of course, but it'll sound much better than the TV's speakers.

I've got a Panasonic Home Theatre connected to my Panasonic 42" Plasma. It talks to the TV automatically and switches on and off automatically so we always have sound the it.

Cost about £250 and made a huge difference - just can't remember the model number!
