That's a great vote winner by itself.

Perhaps. That's a great vote winner by itself.
Until we see the detail, judgement should be reserved.
Because, it might be that such a policy might alienate all those charged with enforcing those laws.

Although it might be that they feel that broader, interpretable laws are better than situational specific ones, and fit more easily into a flexible policing strategy (DWDCA vs using a mobile device etc etc)
I was questioning "vote winner" from the OP.
I'd suggest that most right thinking people would welcome smaller government. I see your point.
If its not a vote winner, we are in a worse state than I thought
"This would scrap ID cards, home information packs and dozens of rarely enforced criminal offences introduced by Labour over 13 years. "

5 pubs a day are closing because of the ban (and other things but mostly the ban) so those folk won't have any work, so how's that better?
Nope daft law brought in by meddling control freaks

They won't be dead sooner.
And its probably only a small reason as to why pubs are shutting.

Shouting FACT does not make it so...its your opinion and in mine you're wrong.FACT
t from Britain's got talent, Piers MorganIt is my opinion and therefore a fact
The smoking ban is the biggest single reason so many pubs are closing down, as the vast majority of their customers were smokers, so if they can't smoke they don't go out. Spoken to many a landlord and not one has said otherwise (granted town centre pubs for the young uns are okay and gastro pubs but I'm talking old fashioned drinking pubs that were just about managing pre ban, that was the final straw).
If that is not the case then none of the pubs will want to go back to allowing smoking so what has anyone got to fear from scrapping the law, unless of course perhaps the antis are not so sure of their stance and fear a lot of pubs know the ban is killing their business.......
