Broken wires, propane and gaslonie found in the car, 1 man seen to be running away.

Times Sq is one of those places covered in public webcams, you can view it live here

http://www.earthcam.com/usa/newyork/timessquare/

Cam1 (HD) shows a lot of Police/emergency vehicles, although the other cams show people walking around as normal (for a 2am!)

My thoughts too. Could be the jihads, the Glasgow bomb sounds very similar but usually they are more professional. Fireworks???? Not normal for them. Very easily traced and not by any means a reliable ignition source. Also the vehicle had its engine running and the hazard lights on. It might as well have had a giant light on the top saying "I'm a Bomb,". Also if it was the jihads surely they would've wanted to hang round and meet Allah & start nibbling on their 96 virgins pieces of dried fruit.

The description of the bomb sounds very similar to Oaklhoma bomb(sp)and Fox have just announced that it was parked outside a branch of the Bank Of America. scratchchin

Maybe a member of The Glenn Beck Commando??

So, home grown a possibility? Glad it didn't go off. For many reasons.

Gas cylinders in a car? scratchchin

Sounds like the Tiger Tiger club bombs.

How can you deduce the source or intent of a bomb based on that brief description of the device?

The number plate was from a junked truck and the VIN number had been removed; obviously an "up-to-no-good" person. A street vendor reported the Nissan Pathfinder was "smoking" and alerted the horse-mounted cop.

Whoever is responsible is clearly as incompetent as the Glasgow Airport muppets and Mr Scorched Underpants at Detroit. Delusional character acting alone would be my bet.

+1, we'd have a lot more to worry about if these guys were actually any good at making bombs...

Rubbish, it would've been too obvious if it was them:
