If it happens at a certain speed i.e. 65-75mph and you can feel it through the steering column it's likely that you just need to get your tyres balanced.

Be a bit more specific. There are some simple common issues with the M3, you havent even told us what model and year / mileage it is.

For example if it is a diesel TDCI, there is a very common and easy fixed vibration and noise caused by the induction system rattlign on the subframe, it hapens most between 1400 and 1800 rpm. You can fix it youself in about 10 minutes.
Althernatively it could be a bottom pulley problem that is often the induction ratle misdiagnosed as bottom pulley, but it is a pig of a job and costs about £400 at a dealer. Or it cold be a dual mass flywheel issue.
If it is a petroll you get a rattle from the inlet manifold if the vary valves are knakcered, it could be that.
Give some more info on model year, fuel type, where do you fee the vibration, is it road speed related, or engine speed related, does it stop if you press the clutch, does it stop if you put the aircon on or off? That sort of thing.

I've seen dozens of Mondeos with broken rear bumpers, all flapping along at certain resonant speeds.

if its a petrol could it be your coil pack? or maybe a sticky rear caliper which they are famed for.

Sorry its a 2002 model mk3 mondeo petrol, it only happens when i accelerate, seems to happen more at higher speeds like around 50-60mph, also seems to happen at mid range revs then is fine after the car increases revs.

air con is off so cant say its that

thanks

If it is a diesel and it is revs related, a noise and vibration between 1400revs and 1800 revs, then it is the UK near side (passenger) front induction piep to the intercooler rattling on the subframe. Either jack up the car, or put ns wheels on a high kerb, lie under the car and you will see a metal pipe about 2 inch diameter going accross the car, change to a rubber concertena pipe about inches long. This inturn changes to a metal pipe that turns 90 degrees toward the front of the car, and it is at this junction (concertena to metal pipe) that the bracket holding the metal part vibtrated on the subframe. You can hae it all apart and fit a revised bracket that hold the metal pipe (from FOrd about £20) or just do like most and stuff some rubber, or dense foam, (even a rag) under the braket, and it will cure the rattle instantly. See Mondeoenthusiasts.org for more details of this easy fix including photos.

Ok on petrol, it could be the inlet manifold valves. They are vaccuum operated, and you can disconnect the valccuum to see if the noise stops, HOWEVER, if they are rattling, they can break, get sucked in the motor and destroy the engine! SO be careful

Again, Mondeo Enthusiast group (forum) will be of great help to you, so I'd go and sign up there and ask.

Coil pack or spark plug leads. When it's loaded it always shows up more.
Take them off and have a look for traces of burning around the base and length of the plug lead or coil pack.
