If anybody has ever had a forum ban of any discription what was it for and how long
was the Ban, was it fair or a set up, or just because somebody disagreed with you.

I've been banned from a few. Always justified.

I've banned people from one, too. Sometimes a set up (goading is such fun). There's a story here, isn't there? So tell us.

Going to give it a few days, But it would appear that if you discuss Islam and the
problems all hell seems to be let loose. I re-quoted an artical about the Burka
being banned in Belgium and reported in a National newspaper, together with the
Muslim chap who defaced the memorial to our soldiers and was let off. I received
an instant Ban. I suppose you can see how far control of what we say has grown.

Heh, foum goading is just like fishing. Get some good bait, be patient and wait for a bite wink

And I think I got banned from making comments inthe daily wail website last year! Was mainly arguing with every single thing they said.

I was right.

The Site I got my Ban from was the Volvo Owners Club Forum Site. Only just paid my subscription I think one of the Moderators
must have been a Islamic Fundalmentalist. Anyway I have asked for a refund.

Once got a 3 day suspension for breaking a rule I didn't see in the FAQ in the trading section.

Also got a 3 day ban for calling someone a prick who was basically slagging a dead soldier off for making spelling mistakes in a letter to his family which was to be sent in case of his death.

First one was fair enough second one I still don't agree with. Neither were on here.

Joined the Volvo Owners Club. £35.00 per year and they have a Club forum for members and non club members.
I got so p155ed off with them that I asked for my membership funds returned. May have over reacted but
some of the forum members are great chaps just the moderators who seem to be the Jobs worth type with
nothing better to do. I think PH forum has also a better outlook on people expressing their feelings
in a fair manner.

Let me just get this clear; you're citing the fact that a moderator of a privately run forum has banned you from said forum as proof that censorship has increased? Did you read the rules of the forum? Do you realise that everything on that forum becomes their copyright and their responsibility under the law once you've submitted it? It's nothing to do with freedom of speech or expression or anything else. It's more like being in someone's house in many ways. If the owner doesn't agree with something you say, you can get chucked out.

I think thats very fair comment I should have realized that but at the time did not think. Yep agree private house and all that. I am a member of a number of car forums which do allow free speach and comment about any subject. Of course I have now come to realize that any forum which is 100% PC is not for me. I did read the rules of the forum and the post I made was within those rules but if a number of members complain about the post then out you go. There are a number of forums that if you dare mention anything about religion politics gays or streight persons you get banned. I honestly do believe that censorship in some forums has increased over the last few years. Anyway that just my opinion for whats its worth. I note that anumber of topics which get discussed on PH would not be permitted on some other forums, thank god for PH's.

I've just been banned from one, mainly because the guy running it was too thick to understand banter and irony. He completely missed the whole 'tongue-in-cheek' aspect of the post and grabbed the wrong end of the stick.

No great loss, the forum wasn't amazing. As an admin on several places I've banned my fair share of users over the years, but only when really justified.

To run with the analogy of being in someone's home, I think there's a difference between sitting round the dinner table and calling the host's kid an ugly sod rather than simply having a disagreement regarding the type of fertilizer he's used on his lawn.

In a similar way you'd probably not get booted from his living room after letting one rip over a cup of coffee but you're bound to get a kick up the arse if you curl one out on his sofa.

I think it's a sad state of affairs that you can't always express your opinions on a forum in a sensible, structured manner simply because the forum moderator/s disagree with your POV.
