Which Seven/Fury fast road track BEC?
Discussion
Hello all. I know this has probably been asked before but I can't find anything related in the search results.
In the next year or so I'm planning on selling my E46 M3 and getting a Seven or closed wheel Fury/Phoenix type car. I'll get a diesel estate for the daily stuff. I've been condidering buying a bike but I've been put off by a nasty accident I saw recently and the tales of various accidents people have had. Therefore, I think a bike engined lightweight kit car is the way forward. I don't really want to start off a BEC vs CEC debate so let's just assume I'll be getting a BEC. I've had an S2000 before and love high revving engines.
I intend on using the kit car for weekend blasts and track days. I'd like to keep the weight of the car to a minimum so don't really want anything wide bodied. I'm on a budget and really need the whole thing done for around or less than £7-8k. Not fussed on a reverse gear (if it becomes and issue I'll get an electric one) but want IRS and an LSD for lurid powerslides. I'm willing to build from scratch or fully built (second hand). I've seen some partly built projects which look like great value also.
Any suggestions of what to go for? I've seen MNR Vortex, Locost, Stewart Taylor Phoenix, Fisher Fury, MK Indy etc. but not sure what to go for.
Thanks in advance!
Matt

Get to stoneleigh tomorrow, have good chat with owners all will be more than willing to show you around their car and talk through the ins and outs of the build, weather permitting most would happily take you for a quick spin to.
Personally my money would be on a Indy R in that price range, that's just my personal view and no way is it gospel nor would I complain if I had any of the others you mentioned.

If you can get in one ( I certainly can't but you might be able to) then the Phoenix and its cousins would seem to be a very good choice, especially as the better aerodynamics will help on the track.
Buying second hand, fully built AND road registered will be cheaper by a couple of £Ks at least than building from scratch. It also makes a lot of sense as you can always rebuild all or part of it whenever you want to, and having driven it first you will have a better idea of what you wnat to change if anything.

Thanks, that's probably what I'll do if it saves some money. How small are Phoenix's? I'm 6 ft and 13 1/2 stone.Buying second hand, fully built AND road registered will be cheaper by a couple of £Ks at least than building from scratch. Having said that there are a number of things that could improve the situation such as replacing the seat with a thin layer of padding, altering the steering wheel's size and positon, altering the pedals etc.

This is an R1 Phoenix (mine) I have had bigger guys than you drive it, the drivers side is a bit bigger than the passengers, however I run identical seats so a bit narrow. This has a 2003 R1 engine, LSD and Protech Suspension, lightweight brakes, quick rack, ect, It is pretty rapid on track, not a lot gets past! ideal for what you want, also Fisher Fury is pretty much the same but about 6 times as many available! ( Mine MIGHT be for sale around August, depending if I decide to build a Sylva J15... But I would want about £8,500 for it) But you can pick up BEC's for between 5K and 9K quite easily.
