Does it work? I am fed up of being able to see nothing out of my rear view mirror when its wet, having no wiper on the rear windscreen.

It works well - if briefly - on windscreens where airflow will shed the water off the low-friction coating. On a rear screen there'll be less airflow so I doubt it'll be particularly effective. Haven't tried it though.

Brother uses it and It does make a real difference IMO. especially in light rain/showers where turning wipers on/off could be irritating.

Try aquapel if you want something longer lasting, had it on my last car and it was still working when I sold it 6 months after applying it.

its really good, mine lasts about 3 weeks before it needs applying again. Usually re-apply when the car gets a wash, so fortnightly ish

I find collinite 845 wax far more effective, lasts for months and is cheaper. Don't use it on windows with wipers though! smile

hehe thanks for that Tom, i do like the sportwagons though, if i wanted an estate it would have been first on the list.

Cheers everyone, looks like its worth giving one of the options a bash, perhaps one of the longer lasting equivalents.

That Collinite wax, is it designed for windows or paint?

i have used rain x for so long now i simply hate driving a car that has not had rain x applied.
night time vision in the rain is just simply amazing compared to without.
it must be applied properly though and needs to be regularly applied to the front screen for best results, i tend not to use screen wash either as this has a negative effect on the stuff.

I have been using it for a while now on the rear screen of the 'Stang and it works a treat.

I haven't tried Rain-X but have used the Car-Lack Glass Sealing kit for a couple of years now. You basically get a bottle of cleaner and a bottle of sealant. It gives the same effect as Rain-X, but lasts for months, even on the front windscreen.

I only have to apply it 2 or 3 times a year, which offsets the higher price (about £13 or so I think). I'd definitely recommend it.

I've been using rain-X for about a year now and would thoroughly recommend it. Make sure you apply it to a very clean windscreen though, I also find that buffing it off with a slightly damp cloth makes it work better, but I might just be imagining that. It lasts for ages on my side / rear windows but tends to stop working properly after about a 2 weeks on the front. Frozen beads of rain in the winter got a bit annoying mind irked

Cheers guys, well as this stuff (Car-Lack Glass Sealing kit) has the most recommendations, and lasts for 2-3 months as opposed to 3 weeks for rain-x i will give it a go. Cleanyourcar.co.uk have it for £13.95, so not too bad money wise. biggrin cheers guys.

+1

Rain-x is an excellent product. I use VW screenwash which doesn't seem to have such a negative effect. It's also good to build up a few coats on the glass. Seems to last longer that way.

Just to add to this, there are actually Rain-X wipes too.
come in a handy roll in a tube much like those handwipes you can get. picked some up for 99p I think it was a while back at a 'Home-Bargain' store locally after a friend told me about them found them to be pretty good, so went back to the store and stocked up!

Thanks for the carlack tip - will give that a go when the current bottle of rain-x has gone. Essential to have something to give 1950s technology a leg up...
