Hi the OH and I will be in KL for a couple of days in early June and are looking for some advice from folks that have been on what you would recommend seeing if you only have 2 days?

Thanks

I was in KL a few years back now, but in just under 24 hours I managed:
  • Tour of the city on a Harley Davidson - we were a group of about 20, but the tour was arranged through the Harley Davidson owners club in KL. Not sure if this is still available, but well worth it if you get the chance. Included stops at the war memorial, ride past one of the royal palaces, photo opportunity in front of the Petronas tower etc
  • Tour of the Royal Selangor pewter factory http://www.serimelayu.com/restaurants/angkasa_kl/i...
  • Dinner at the top of the KL tower http://www.serimelayu.com/restaurants/angkasa_kl/i...

Just left there few days ago, went to Taman Negara now in the perenthain islands.

Do China town, little india, petronas towers ( get there 9am as the tickets are free but it is first come first served, they will be all gone by 10.30 ).

If you get a taxi don;t get it from your hotel, hail one, if they "quote" a price then haggle hard, they should use the metre and they are really cheap.

Strange place, very western, booze is soho prices and not really worth it.

Enjoy

Pesident PH'ers Berw and -Deadlock- will be along shortly no doubt but from my experiances KL is a prety cool city, if you digaround there is lots of nightlife from food and drink to bars to party 'till dawn stuff!

Tip for the petronas towers, for a token tip of RM50, Most hotel concierge's have a few kids that will wait in the queue for you to get your tickets and deliver them to your table as you have a relaxing breakfast thumbup

Have a look on the calender and see if there is anything happening in Sepang.

Good shopping for fake designer goods in China town, the genuine article shopping is not bad but not up to Singa standards.

Watch out for the cabbies as mentioned, many are thieving bar stewards (but have also had some very good drivers too)

Will leave the rest of this to the local guys!

ETA - be aware, it will be DAMN HOT in June!!!

Little India is worth a visit, even if it's just for lunch.

Amazing curries there, all ridiculously cheap. There isn't a lot of English spoken around there, so it will be a case of pointing and not having a clue what the price is.

From my experience Malaysians are very honest, we ate at loads of street stalls without printed prices, and were always charged very low prices.

we did organised minibus tours from our hotel. One route seems to have mirrored the Harley tour mentioned above and was airconditioned, too. Another took in the pewter factory, a jad factory and shop (crap) and a real (block print) Batik factory/works and shop which was excellent. Street food was great and cheap.

I was in KL last year for a couple of nights. Biggest regret was not spending longer there, even just an additional day would have been great in hindsight.

There is a great little Dim Sum restaurant in Starhill Gallery shopping mall. It's very good value and serves fantastic food, seem to remember it's only open in the morning.

The Starhill Gallery itself is worth a walk round too, full on uber-expensive brands, lots and lots of amazing watch shops there. It shows how the other half of KL live.

Ok Petronas Tower, get ticket day before, lunch in Kl tower is good, Train to China town then walk back up the river througt Majid India, try Batu Caves, the bird garden, National zoo, never heard of the harly ride, I assume this was somthing organized by the Head Hunters, local harley group, but would be a bit of a one off, wouldn't recommend bike ridding on KL unless in a group, as it is diffent and you don't want to be looking at the sights with the idiot drivers around you, you need to be looking at the road. Shopping star hill is closed for resoration but KLCC is open the big new shopping center is Pavilion, night life in Changat Bukit Bingtang is good everything from Fish and Chips to French and very good local, where are you staying?

Thanks guys, all very useful tips, does anyone know which vaccines/jabs you're supposed to get before visiting Malaysia (KL and Langkawi)?

You don't need any, just bring some mozzie spray for at sunset if you get caught out.

Main thing to remember is its hot and humid so keep well hydrated, i always recomend people to bring the berocca tablets and to drink a pint of that every morning ontop of usual fluids just to make sure that you are topped up.

We didn't bother with any vaccines or malaria tablets, most people we met while out there didn't either.

You don't need jabs, but Dengui is getting more and more prevelent, mate's daughter went down last week, so avoid standing water, shouldn't be a problem for a tourist staying in a Hotal. I'm in Kl fists week of June if you want to meet PM me and I'll get you in the Twin Towers without the tickets.
