When will Truckers realise that the throttle pedal is more than just an on/off switch !. One day they will realise that it is possible to slow down slightly in order to allow the guy who is overtaking them doing 56.5mph, to get past a little quicker. Thus not p*****g everyone else behind them off.!!

Sorry just a rant.

As a truck driver I agree with you 100%

I always back off slightly if another truck is trying to overtake.. they are going to get past sooner or later..

If you are being overtaken do you slow down to make it easier/quicker for the overtaker to get passed?

I dont see what your problem is, annoying as it is to be stuck behind elephant racers they are within the law.

But then I don't pvertake going 1mph faster than the car inside me if there are people behind me going faster, I wait for them to pass. I also don't think that putting my indicator on gives me the right pull out in front of someone. And when when I have used the 'overtaking lane' I pull back in, I don't sit there for another minute just because I can see there is something else I want to overtake 500 metres down the road.

I do think trucks should be banned from using the outside lane during rush hour times.

Unless the overtaking truck forces traffic established in l2 to alter speed or course...

Brilliant idea, I can't wait to try and get on or off the Motorway with the inside being clogged with Trucks.

raise the speed limit for trucks to 70mph

Modern tractor units are easily capable of pulling a load at this speed safely

Are the drivers though? (Foreign ones especially)

Probably fairly long!!! I don't want to be in front of one at a roundabout when it tries it.

Strikes me that improvements need to be made in the speed regulators to overcome the 0.001mph differences, whatever maximum speed is deemed eco-freindly mad by EU spazmos. It can't be impossible to use some sort of GPS based system to ensure that all trucks are running at identical maximum speeds and therefore have no need to overtake. OK, I do recognise the downside of Big Brother-esque technologies that might not be welcomed by the truckers.

It's a topic close to my heart as I plough up and down the A14/M11 most days, the majority dual carriage. They've just introduced a 'Speed Trial' on the M11 for a mile or so south of J9 (A11). Makes sense there as southbound traffic joining the M11 go straight on to a long climb, so the typical situation was M11 trucks immediately pull out to let A11 trucks on, then of course crawl up the hill hand in hand. So all good in theory, of course in practice as soon as the trucks get over the hill and are given the all clear to overtake they do just that, so result is point of conjestion is moved 1 mile or so further down the M11. If the powers that be had any balls they'd have enforced the trial all the way through the hilly section down to J8 where the M11 goes to 3 lanes. God, that would be bliss wink Don't start me on the bloody A14 though!!

Cheers,
Rob

They're not within the fcensoreding law if they signal and move whilst I'm practically level with his trailer drop-legs and pull out regardless. Never mind the fact I'm passing with a decent speed difference (i.e. not lingering in his blind spot), have my lights on, and should have been visible in L2 for a good 20 seconds or so.

I could live with this, if it wasn't such a regular occurance. Once can be shrugged off as a mistake/driver having a bad day, but it happens so often that I'm convinced they either don't bother looking, or don't care what's coming.

As much as we moan, roads are for all, not just for agitated car drivers, truckers have as much right to overtake as you and I do, albeit a tad slower.

Foreign drivers?.. thats a whole new kettle of fish, if they arn't fit then they arn't fit regardless.

Modern tractors are now fitted with disk brakes which have excellent braking qualities.

Trucks in the states have been running at 70mph for years without issues
