I have just ended up with £500 per month more pay, I am already saving as much as I 'need' to. Should I treat myself? Thinking of maybe a contract car for a year for 2, something like a BMW or Merc.

What are your thoughts?

ETA: just noticed the error in the title. st.

What about that deal on the BMW 6 series that made such an uproar up here?

why not stick it in the bank and let it build up and buy something? Or do you have to have the newest latest thing?

Why not spend a couple of grand on a nice convertible to enjoy this summer. I wouldn't consider some bland eurobox that gets returned after two years a 'treat', but each to their own I suppose.

Use it to pay off your mortgage!Or invest in property
I'd bank the money for a bit. Then decide

I don't need the brand new shiny thing, just something 'nice' if you know what I mean.

I'm not really into the 6 series tbh.

Speak to AB - if his deal is still available you could be in a '10 plate 6 series cab if that floats your boat?

If you are in a comfortable financial position, i would say , yeah treat yourself!

Only live once, would you be buying something to replace what you have now, or as a second car?

Something to replace my current car. The hassle of having 2 does no really appeal. Might just let it build up for a while until I see something stunning.

If you're not the spending type, then don't go for a contract deal! I'd save the money, as others have suggested. You can then buy another car, overpay your mortgage, go on a nice holiday, or even have a season's karting :-)

Bank it, at least for a while. Well done on the payrise, but definitely tie it all up on one extravagance.

If it was me I'd save up for a bit and then buy something fun for weekends ... six months will give you £3k (MX-5?) and a year will give you £6k which will get you all sorts of fun .... Porsche 944 plus some change to cover petrol and insurance springs to mind

Dude, the Tories are about to assume power, 137000 people are about to be sacked in the NHS alone (McKinsey report 2009, leaked) so extrapolate across the country.

That means lots of houses will depreciate as the public sector salaries won't be there to keep the "demand" up.

Knock-on businesses from sarnie shop to valeting are going to take a big hit as the Tories start to heavily syphon money to the rich again.

Wales will be all but destitute due to high % of public sector employment, same as other places in the UK such as north England.

In other words, bank the money. We're going back to the 80's.

In your shoes I'd already have a bank loan arranged for a TVR Chimaera (at whatever amount and time is needed to be less than £400 a month so you've got £100 a month for the insurance).

You only live once.

Been there, done that... wouldn't advise it. Reason being the real cost in running a car like that is not in purchasing it. You can't do a car like that on a budget.
