Pop quiz. What's the most economical diesel around the size of a Focus that doesn't suck monkey balls through a straw?

Pug 307 hdi 1.4 or Astra CDTi 1.7 perhaps ?

Depends what you are wanting to spend I guess.... those two, good ones for £3k-£4k.

70mpg on the motorway, £30ish road tax etc.

I got 61mpg out of a Mondeo estate 130 TDCi over 160 motorway miles, running at 50 - 70, mostly 70...smile

Apparently you didn't read the second half of the question wink

Civic diesel?

50+ mpg all day long at motorway speeds & relatively entertaining to drive.

All very well and good but I'd rather someone repeatedly ram a human fist through my anus than buy another Honda product (long story).

Can't argue with that.

I'm sure my story will be longer than yours too...

Hmm, I'd take the bet but I fear my story would break at least 40 posting rules smile

In which case may I suggest the Mondeo TDCi130 or perhaps something out of the norm, a Pug 406 Coupe with the 2.2 hdi...

The only flaw with that suggestion is that the Mondeo TDCi130 is more mondeo-sized than focus-sized. Focus-sized vehicles are about the size of a Focus and not a Mondeo.

Just don't turn the engine on, then you'll never use any fuel.

Again, there's a flaw with this suggestion. I would outline what it is but I think we all know, deep down, what it might be.

Hmm, hadn't considered the 1-Series, to be honest. Slightly worried it might be getting too close to monkey territory frown

Assuming you are getting a diesel to save fuel costs, why not lower your budget slightly and get a non monkey-sucking petrol for the same overall cost?
