Why wouldn't you help a copper? I bet you would expect one to help you in the same situation?

The copper already has a truncheon, CS spray and possibly a taser if he still getting a kicking after using all that I wouldnt be getting involved with the fight either.

The last time I helped someone out I got arrested and spent the night in piss smelling cells accused of assault.

No now I'd leave anyone to get the st kicked out of them

I'd help anyone I saw getting a good kicking. I'd hope someone would do the same for me but I wouldn't expect it

Friend, neighbour, paramedic and random I'd probably help. The rest, fk em. The government is the enemy as far as I'm concerned, and it's enforcers and goons can look after themselves. Politician I'd probably help the thugs.

Of course it depends on circumstances to some degree.

I would help all of them out, but then I do have a strong sense of right and wrong. Local cops are good as gold but I have heard some horror stories from further afield.

No I'm not an anti war protester. In my experience most soldiers who get into fights in public do so because they start them. They usually have a few mates with them and are capable of looking after themselves. Besides if said thugs are williang and able to kick the st out of a professional soldier I don't see what I'm going to be able to do about it except get a kicking myself, again only to later find out said war hero has a belly full of piss and started a fight with the wrong guy.

I did say it depends on circumstances though. If they're standing outside Buckingham palace kicking the st out a beefeater for no reason I'd probably help out. If they're having a drunken brawl on Saturday night then let them get on with it.

Pretty much if they do not look able to or are not fighting back then I am likely to step in. Being a bigish lad I am not too bad if the need arises, although I hate it with a passion for anything other than self defence.

The thing is I would be pretty worried about helping anyone out if I am honest. I have a friend (that happens to be a Soldior) and he saw a woman kicking two bags of crap out of a guy one night when he was out on the town. He walks in the middle of it and uses himself as a shield. The girl becomes gobby and tells him to move which he doesn't so she hits him round the side of the face (full on punch).

He warns her not to do it again and she does so as she pulls back for the next one he grabs her fist and pushed his thumb into her pressure point. She went down on the floor and then he released his thumb. Everytime she tried to get up he pushed his thumb back in again. He kept her like this until the Police came.

Guess what happened?

He got arrested because she made a complaint of assault and he got dragged into court. If it wasn't that the Judge saw sense (and CCTV evidence) he would be in jail right now. Oh and by the way...the CCTV evidence was NOT used to prosecute the girl for kicking the crap out of the man...she got off scott free.

I would help anyone who was getting a kicking, but the degree of help would depend on how likely I was to get stabbed in the chest, and if I was with anyone who would be at risk due to my involvement.

However, if it was a friend/loved one, I would disregard all thoughts of risk and do whatever it takes.

I'm similar to you in that respect, also when intoxicated I disregard all thoughts of risk. If its someone I dont know I will try do a risk assesment on the fly, is anyone around who looks like they may step in, if they have back up. But one thing that is always on my mind is the likelyhood of someone carrying a blade or similar.

Personally, I can't answer yes or no, as things are rarely that black and white. The best answer I can give is that I would assess each situation and make a decision based on the circumstances at the time.

Caveat being that if it was family or friends, I would do all I could to help.
