Howdy all. My mate has gone to look at an Astra convertible and I think it is too overpriced for what it is so wanted to get the experts opinions!

It is one of the ones with the full body kit on it, Bertone or something apparently? Has 60k on it and looks in reasonable nick with the exception of a couple of trolley dings and the usual shut line gaps from the body flex. It is up for £4500 and the seller says he won't take less that £4250 for it but my mate can't afford over £4k.

Do you reckon it's overpriced or should he get hold of another £250 and go for it?

Sorry!! It is an '02 reg 1.8. It's silver with full leather interior (heated seats etc).

I'd say it's worth between £3700 - £4500 depending on condition, availability of same model on the market and with convertibles, the time of year and weather.

Really comes down to how much your friend wants it. For that sort of money I'd be looking at an e36 droptop which I think looks much better.

Also, I don't think the 1.8 ecotec of that time is meant to be very good, so you may want to do some more research on that.

So?

I'd personally spend 4k on an older e36 convertible then a newer Astra one.

We used to have an e36 compact and now have a 2001 Astra sxi as 2nd cars. The Astra looks a little more modern but the Beamer is better screwed together, looks better if older, has a cam chain and more importantly drives far better.

Good advice! I've spoken to him this morning and he's now looking for BM's!! Didn't think you could get anything decent in that price range but looks very promising!!
