That's the price of the R, the R32 without any of the V6 charm. The weakness of the £ isn't helping matters either.

Edited to add: for that kind of money I'd have a 370Z and a Fiat 500

The speedo / rev counter remind me of an early Porsche 944, the way they are set into the dash like that.

Nothing special, just another pretty good hot hatch. Highly tweaked 2.0 still. Would make a good 4/5year buy.

You'd have to be insane to pay that much. And black wheels ruin it.

IMO the interior isn't anything special compared to other 35k cars. Plus it doesn't look that much different from a 1.9 tdi.

Yup I have to say it is a bit much for a golf, you could buy something really interesting and seriously mental for that type of money.

Who would buy that?

Seriously?

You'd need to be fully coked up or something.

35k gets you lots of things.

So it's bland and unimaginative?

List price for the 'basic' Golf R is £30.5k! A full spec 5 door with DSG and all of the options is over £42.5k!

The Impreza comparison is a good shout. Very similar in form and function, but better in pretty much every single way.

Here's another 35K rip off:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1571983/Mov...

Not very relevant, but neither is a 2-seater sports car when you want 5-seat hatchback.

And here's another way to spend 35K, though it should hold its value better than the cocktail wink

i was seriously looking at the new impreza (sometimes think i should have got one) was looking at the regular wrx and the mk5 golf. the inside of the subaru felt very cheap and sparse in comparison.

though to be fair i was only spending 15k, i wouldnt pay more than 25k for a golf.
