Recommend me a golf club....
Discussion
Righto...
I have played golf for years and years and got to a good single figure handicap. I haven't been playing much or thinking about golf at all in the last year or so but getting back into it now.
Can someone recommend me a good driver.
I still play with a Titleist 907 (I think), and it is not forgiving!
All other clubs are fine - don't want to change, but driving has always been an issue...

As with all other clubs, it's a very personal choice and you are probably best trying out a selection before deciding.
And it's not all about cost either. The non-conforming rule change forced me to change my Callaway ERC+ and I ended up with a Srixon driver which was some £250 cheaper when new. The results have been stunning - longer, straighter drives and much more forgiving for off-centre hits. Wish I'd changed years ago..

IMHO it doesn't matter what brand you buy, just make sure you get it custom fitted. I switched to a fully fitted R7 driver from an off the peg Nike (same approximate price) and the difference was massive - best decision I ever made. It got me from 12 hcp (where I had been stuck for more than three years) down to 8 in one season.
Having a great deal of confidence in the big dog also works it's way through the rest of your game too - since I got the club my 3 wood and rescue shots have also improved a lot as well.
Oh and I think it was only about £20 too (if you bought the club from them, otherwise £35 and a detailed printout for you to order it from wherever you liked), with the full works - grip measurement, launch monitor to measure angle, spin rates and flight trajectory etc etc - all included. Took about 45 minutes all in.
Cheers

Difficult to advise over the net, but Ping tend to be pretty decent and they have fitting centres all over the UK. Taylormade bring out a new model every year so might be worth scouring eBay for last year's model, there won't be any difference!
I'm quite liking Cobra stuff at the moment, Acushnet have really improved it!

I actually work in a golf shop, on the A3, and thus fit drivers most days.
All i would say is to make sure that who ever fits your driver gets you out on the range with a machine that measures all of your stats, we use the trackman system for example. The driver that works best will largely depend on the shaft. This in turn depends on your launch angle and club head speed, thus giving you your spin rates. Other factors such as the head design and loft will also contribute.
Each person is differant and thus has differant requirements from the club itself. Also remember that often the shaft that gives the best performance can be ordered in other clubs by other manufacturers, often for little or no extra cost.
I know that our fitting service is free, as long as the club is purchased through us, otherwise its £25 for the fitting.
If you have any questions pm me or reply on here and i should pick it up

ked and has bits of graphite splintering away from its shaft after being trapped in the outside cupboard? Is that still the Indian?
