Car: 1985 280i Series "1.5". I "need" to replace two pieces of carpeting - the carpet panel on the tranny tunnel on the passenger's/right hand side (some of is melted from over heating of the center resonators), and the carpeting on the GRP cover behind the seats (my car didn't have this cover when I bought, and the one I bought has a solid brown carpeting on it). I don't want to replace all the carpeting; for the particular pieces I'm replacing, I'll live with some bit of difference in color and pattern. In the US, I've been able to source OE-replacement interior materials for just about everything - leather and vinyl in biscuit/tan (maps perfectly to some Jaguar stuff), brown mohair for the door inserts and headliner (kinda generically available), canvas top material (also generically available), even wood work - EXCEPT the carpeting!
The original carpeting is a two-toned brown, with two colors of thread material for a "tobacco'ish" color. I like it. It's more interesting, I think, than a solid color. I'd REALLY like to find an "original" replacement.
In the UK, I've contacted some shops that have been good enough to send samples, and the matches have been more than good enough/essentially the same. Same pattern and color. It's called "exhibition cord". Great. In the US, I can find exactly the same/right cord pattern match to the original carpeting in the form of indoor/outdoor carpeting and acoustic wall covering, BUT after quite a bit of hunting I have not been able to get the carpeting in the right color.
I'm having some trouble getting/keeping the attention of UK sources to sell me some carpeting. Does anyone in the UK have any favorite trim shops that would be amenable to selling some modest'ish amount of carpeting to the US?!
The carpet is the last piece to getting the interior of my car to the point of being really great.
Thanks!

Have you tried these: http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/
I'm in the middle of re-carpeting my Wedge, and they supplied the underfelt and adhesive. You could also try D&C Trim. Based at the old TVR facrory site, it's run by a couple of ex-factory trimmers, Dave and Chris. They supplied the carpet I'm using now. d_c_trim@hotmail.co.uk
