My car was serviced last month. The light came on before the service, together with the message and the lambda sensor was replaced as part of the service.

In the last week, the orange engine light started to come on when I accelerated reasonably hard, but would go away again after a few minutes. Over the weekend, the orange engine light became permanent and hard acceleration results now in the red warning triangle and a message to "drive slow".

The car feels absolutely fine. I'm going to take it in again, but is there any reason to be concerned about it for the rest of the week?

There was a thread running on this - but I can't find it now !

I know Rick will be along in a mo', but to paraphrase his and my phone conversation on this exact subject:

Often happens with a change of driving style, or if the fuel cap isnt fully tightened after a refill, or for a number of other not very exciting, and non-automotively-harmful, reasons.

If the car is running perfectly normally apart from the light ignore it, use the car as you normally do and the warning light etc will self reset in a couple of days after about 10 engine starts.

It did after 8 !!

There seems to be nothing he doesn't know !

Nick

I had the same issue straight after leaving the main dealers (twice) I had the car serviced at DMS and the light came on (emission service) 1k miles later, Rick advised me to get a OBD reader, monitor the codes and reset if minor. I bought this one from Amazon and it works fine

Thanks. It may be the change of driving style, given that I had been driving in London traffic for a few weeks and then had a few longer trips with some B road blasts.

Funnily enough, my M5 did something similar last month in similar circumstances.

I'll check out the OBD reader.

There are two lambda sensors I believe. Did you have both replaced?

I've just had them changed on my V8V (under warranty) after I was getting the same emissions service message. The message hasn't reappeared since.

Are these kits easy to read and where can you find the code descriptions?
Also just a little question......where does this plug in?

I have had the emissions text come up twice and this could save me getting stung by a local dealer.

yes very easy to read - a couple of button presses - plug in, switch ignition on, press enter on the reader (usually)

the sockets are under the dash on drivers side and labelled accordingly

the codes are in the OBD manual/workshop manuals, that are available on .pdf online somewhere ...I have them if you get really stuck

It would be quite easy to do a full tutorial on where to plug in, how to use and the relevance of any codes, I can add a full list of codes, the obd eobd codes are generic to all makes, these readers will work on petrol cars from 2000 and diesels from 2004, so not just for the astons, they will allow resetting of the emmission service warning,

A few basic rules, if there are no other symptoms or warnings then make a note of any codes as these may be needed in the future for diagnosis, once cleared they will not be retrievable in the future, If there are other symptoms such as loss of power strange noises or any other concerns such as high fuel consumption other warning do not clear as the data may be crucial to help with diagnosis, These are basic tools with limited access but they can give a great insight, and save unnecessary trips to a Dealer or Specialist, I will gladly offer tech support either through here, my faq site or the usual phone or email, these really can give piece of mind for a minimal outlay, also just because a code indicates an item this may not be the cause but a reaction to something else such as an air leak will trigger an oxygen sensor fault even though there is nothing wrong with the sensor, the codes are a tool to help with fault diagnosis and other methods will be needed to confirm, I say this so that sensors etc are not changed unnecessarily,

As always if this info would be useful let me know, I will then take the time to compile it, probably with a video as well,

Thanks, as ever, Rick.

I've ordered one of these OBD checkers and will see what it tells me. I'll post the code for advice if that's OK.

Wish I lived closer to Derby!

My emissions service message came on last weekend, bought an OBD from Amazon, plugged it in to the right hand socket and it came up with the fault code P0133(slow sensor response). Reset it and worked a treat! Took 5 mins from start to finish and best £25 I've spent since Ting tong in Thailand, but thats another story!(and longer than 5 mins)
