Hello PHers,

Can anyone tell me why i get so much wheel spin from my ITR when doing a fast start in the dry?
I pull away around 4-5000 rpm and surprised as it has an LSD....i put AMS MTF in the gearbox and not sure if i need a oil with friction modifiers for the lsd?? is this normal for this car?
Thanks in advance for your advice.

Bad tyres?, wrong pressures?

Most ITR's wheelspin into second though, almost a chirp.

Never driven an itr but surely you don't need 5k for a fast start! Dumping the clutch in any car at 5k is probs gona give you a spin. (and some tasty clutch)

I concur, most vehemently, with your astute observations.

You'll certainly get wheelspin if you treat the car like that yes, just as you'll soon knacker the diff and gearbox, and the tyres...

Have you tried using less revs and not being so brutal with the car? What tyres do you run btw?

Is 5000rpm when it comes on cam?

My S2000's would bog down out of vtec on a launch start, if I got it into vtec and launched they were out of there like a raped nun.

Always thought it a bit cruel on the transmission doing 7000rpm starts though frown

Official switch point is 5800rpms on UK spec cars, JDM likely to be the same IIRC. You can launch them well with 3500rpms or thereabouts without it bogging or spinning up too badly, and it quickly reaches the switch point in first and as second is a crossed ratio the car just takes off from therein. These cars aren't about drag racing starts though, its the corners they seek wink

It might not be nice but its probably the truth!!

If you just drop the clutch at 4000rpm your going to get wheelspin.
If you slip the clutch this is even worse as you are going to wear out the clutch.

I find the best way to get a "quick" start in most FWD cars is to pull away with fairly low revs, get the clutch up as soon as possible and then progressively apply more throttle until the tires feel like they are just about to spin.
With practice you get get the clutch up very quickly and find the limit of the tires.

This way might not seem as spectacular as a "fast and furious" wheel spinning start, but it will be quicker.

An LSD wont help you much accelerating in a straight line on a dry road. The LSD stop you from spinning up the inside wheel when pulling out of a corner.

Oh and anyway, since when was dropping the clutch with an ass load of rpm's a good or mechanically sympathetic of getting off the line fast?
