What's my Z4 Coupé worth?
Discussion
Sorry for the rather boring and self centered thread, but I was wondering what people thought my BMW Z4 Coupé was worth. It's a 2007 model that's done just 13,000 miles. It's pretty much as new other than a couple of very minor scratches which show up in the sun on close inspection. It's got the usual spec: parking sensors, heated leather seats, CD autochanger etc and is black with black leather interior. I paid £22,500 for it from a BMW dealer in November and as such it has 6 months warranty left on it (plus an extended MoT till November). Loads of miles left till the next service, and 5mm left on the tyres.
The reason for me asking is that I put it up for sale for £19k ono very soon after buying it, and got no interest at all. The advert's expired now, so what do people think I should re-advertise it for? The dealer offered me not much less than that as a trade in for another car.
thanks.

Working from the figure I thought my 56 Z4MC is worth I was going to say 18k. Hopefully I am too low as that would make mine worth more as well
That's what I was offered as a trade in, although the dealer screwed up in selling me the car in the first place (I wanted a car that took a roof rack... and it doesn't!), so it may have been a good trade in value. It seems like the £19k I put it up for in November was a very good price at the time - from what you say it seems more accurate as a price now to be honest! I'll re-advertise it at that price and just wait I think.

Two 3.3 metre kayaks! :-) All explained to the dealer; I just phoned them up saying that's what I wanted to carry and my budget of £25k.a bike will fit in the boot. and there is a rack thing for the rear hatch at about £700!

Current plan is to buy my Dad's 320d off him when he changes next March, and get something cheap to plug the gap.

If you told the dealer what you were going to use it for, and it can'd do that, you'd have been entitled to reject it, surely?
They laughed at the mere suggestion of that. All I was offered was a trade in against another vehicle, wherin I lost out. A private sale is financially the best way forward for me.Strange, seeing as I'd like to think I'm quite a reasonable person and the salesman was a friendly professional guy. I even got BMW UK involved and they said the dealership's decision was final.
It's a beautiful car, in almost 'as new' condition. I've got an Elise as well, so simple don't need the Z4C.

Ah, well you must have known that when you bought at least!I'm not on a wind up, and have no idea whether you've posted before about the dealer not playing ball, but it seems a blatant breach of the statutorily implied term that goods are fit for purpose. That is relevant if the seller is aware of the purpose to which you want to put the goods. If you specifically said you wanted to carry canoes on a roof rack, I don't see how they'd have a leg to stand on, though evidence may be a bit more tricky to provide if it was only verbal.
How much for the Elise?

If you simply look at a Z4 Coupe it is blindingly obvious it will not carry a canoe.
Thats like saying when you look at a S2000 its clear that the car can't carry bikes...Got 2 full suspensions bikes on it over the weekend.
Small cars are great. My Audi TT once got in it a whirlpool single oven, a 900mm extractor hood and fan and hob in the boot with the seats down ;-) All boxed up from Ikea.

Well, my girlfriend's Yaris is what we're using now for kayaks (we live apart, which is why I needed a roof rack on my car, and she's only just passed her test and is too nervous to drive the 70 miles to see me anyway), and the bar spacing on that is 69cm. I've never measured the bar spacing on a 3 series, but it looks very similar. The length of the main part of the roofline on my Z4C where the glass touches is... 69cm. So it's not too illogical if you think about it.What shocked me is that I've now found out that other current BMWs such as the 3 series and 5 series have four little hatches in the roof that reveal captive nuts for fitting roof bars, and all I needed to look for in my Z4C was these to see if it would take a roof rack. My E36 roof rack clamped over the windows, so I wasn't aware of these hatches at all, I just trusted the salesman. What shocked me was that when I said to the salesman in our discussion on the matter after I bought the car: "Were you aware that BMW roof racks fit via these four little hatches on the roof, so you just needed to look at the Z4C to see if it had them" he got very shirty with me and said "do you expect me to know everything about BMWs?!". I simply replied "yes, you're a BMW salesman and have been for ten years". The guy who I previously wrote to the dealership to congratulate on being a thoroughly excellent salesman had suddenly changed his tune completely. His manager said the same thing to me; he didn't expect his staff to know all the details of the cars they were selling.
I never got anything in writing about the roof rack, it was a conversation over the phone. The salesman did agree that he remembered this conversation, but later when I started quoting the sales of goods act and asking for my money back he started claiming that the conversation never happened. They offered me £18k trade-in against a £19k 130i there, and after some arm twisting I was getting nearer to a straight swap, but when you consider that my Z4C cost me £22.5k, and I'd only put 500 miles on it, it was hardly an apologetic deal from them - they were just trying to make a profit out of me.
Incidentally, I looked at getting an RS4 last month and without even relating this story at all when I asked about a roof rack on the RS4 the Audi salesman turned to the computer on his desk and brought up the details and a pic of the RS4 roof rack before offering to print the details out for me to take home. I can't name and shame the BMW dealership that screwed me over, but I can name the Audi dealership as being the extremely excellent and friendly Audi Reading (and no, the BMW dealership wasn't the one in Reading, just in case anyone tries to guess!).

just passed her test!! :-D
Well, if she can't drive 70 miles on her own perhaps she shouldn't have.Anyway, this is beside the point. Even if she could drive to see me I need to be able to carry my own kayak around, and I made it clear to the BMW dealer that I had to have a roof rack on the car.
Ouch.

I've just put my car in there and with 30,000 miles on the clock it's worth £18,800. I have to pay them to find out what my car's extras and very low mileage are worth, so I've just added a bit for that
