Fire extinguisher Bottles

Just noticed mine is out of date, can they be re-dated or do you need to by a new one.
Its 2 years old. if they can be re-dated or re-fill, where can I get this done in Essex, or what do I search on.

They can be re-charged and dated.
The manufacturer will do it, or you can go by a motorsport shop like merlin / tweeks but they'll add a %

As said it's only 2 years old, so would like it re-dated / recharged as its still in the green.

usually Cheaper if you can get it refilled. Although last time I needed one refilling it was quicker and cheaper to buy a new one !!

Is it a Lifeline one? The company is just outside Coventry and they will overhaul/re-charge while you wait or mail it to them - I had mine done last year on a Fri afternoon, turn round time about 45 mins. Tel [phone].

<LOL> yes I usually carry a spare as I've seen that happen more than once... I've had to swap one once, not because it went off by accident but due to a crash resulting in a fire!!. funnily enough I had to use the other one the following day when it caught fire again !!!

I've seen plenty go off by accident though, especially the electric ones, as they are easier to set off. It happened to Marc once. He had a small engine fire, which the marshals put out without using the on board fire ex. one of the marshals then slipped on the foam, and landed on the switch setting off the in car one ...

If you do get a second one, make sure it uses the same o/d and i/d pipe. there are a few different pipe sizes,too big and it will not fit too small and it will blow off. also buy them a year apart. so you dont have to refil them at the same time, and if you forget you always have one in date.


On the subject of pipes, its a good idea to disconnect from the fire ex and use some compressed air to make sure they are not blocked with dust, grp etc.. I do it a coupple of times a season.

If its a cable system remove and oil the cable too...

Can you get me a price for a spare,
Do they do just the Extinguisher and not the complete kit.
I have a Lifeline 2000, Sn 17761, 2.0 / 2.0 / 2.5 / 2.5 Litres 8 Bar, total weight 6.62 KG

I'm sure its this model Zero 2000 FIA 4.0 litre Fire Marshal Mechanical (Steel Cylinder)

I gave them a call, and they said they is a company round the corner to me, than can re-fill them, so going to pop over Saturday.

I believe that it just needs a service after two years, not a recharge. For National events the scrutes currently only need to see that its in the green, I believe - your dates will only be checked for International events.

If it isnt plumbed in and youre determined to have it recharged, then Id set it off myself to see how long it discharges for, and what it will take down...

It was still at 9 Bar (stamped at 8 Bar)
I've allready had it done, I did see it go off, as the guy just sprayed it in his garden, no hard though being upto date.
