Hi.. Just out of interest... any XK/XKR owners or ex-owners here... Have you moved from the XK to the M3 or the other way around?

Saw a newish XKR on the road yesterday... looked and sounded stunning...

I would have thought most M3 owners would mature to the XKR?

I test drove one last week, thughts were that it was refined, it was smooth, power was superb and handling very good as well, stunning shape and I could see myself quite easily in one instead of the M3, big difference in cost though, even low mileage demo's are around 60k

That is indeed a lot of money. The new RS5 is approx £57k but that is 444bhp over the 500bhp of the XKR. I wonder how that will affect the XKR sales.

Surely enough the XKR will drop in value as all big jags do. That 60k XKR in 2 years will be about 40k if not lower... going on current used car prices for the XKR.

Really.. a XKR over an M3?

Were you that impressed by the XKR?

I had the previous model XKR prior to E46 M3 and I would be in one of the newer ones if only it had a manual gearbox like my E92 M3.

Sorry to the op for this slight hijack, it's becoming a tad boring justifying my E92 M3 to mates who have E46 M3 especially when we all know they are going to end up there !

Feels like quite a different car; the XK is much more luxurious, refined and better finished. The M3 is much more of a sports car, while also having so much more space in both the car and the boot.

I find the XK too big outside and too small inside. The Jag I am most tempted by is the XFR. But if I had an XFR instead of the M3 I would have to have something else sporty as well.

The new XKR is a very different car to the old one, and the XKR-S is a lovely piece of kit.

I'd be quite suprised if the XKR could beat an M3. The M5 beats it quite easily and the new M3 is not too far behind the M5. I know it's 500bhp but it doesn;t appear to deliver it all that well. Have a couple of videos I will dig out for you.

It depends what you mean by "beat"

A road car is about more than stats, ring times, performance figures.

As a package, an M3 has always been about maximising everyday usability and performance, and is a package that is very very difficult to "beat" IMO, however if being a little bit "special" ranks right at the top of the requirements list, and special-stage-balls-out outright pace is lower on the priorities, then the M might not be the "best" car for the owner.

I suppose the XK/XKR are stunning to look at; very different to a M3.. would be surprised to see many M3 owners who would consider it.

The XK range is about luxury; the M3 is more harsh? Sports car type set up?

I wouldn't touch an XKR with your bargepole let alone mine!

Yes it was very good, alot more refined and you just can't argue with the quality and sheer beauty of the thing, drive wise its different, definitely an auto cruiser, the problem wiht the M3 is that its no sports car, too heavy and numb but its also not a GT, a good all rounder but its not that polished at either, the M3 is a good car but it's not by any means special, the engine is but the rest is a bit boring really IMO.
