Wife and kids intend to spend 6 weeks in France brushing up on the old French language skills.

Anyone got a suggestion for finding a cheap Gite or apartment that will sleep 3?

Should be near enough to an airport to get to by cab or train, and ideally no more than a mile or so to a beach.

Cheers PH Gite experts!

We really struggled with the usual suspects like Chez Nous. Most of July and August seemed to have gone before the brochure had hit the mat.

My secretary suggested Cottages4you. I was very sceptical but that is who we ended up booking with. Still not what I would call cheep but I always work on the addage that "You get what you pay for". They were 2/3 the cost of the other usual suspects. Crossing booked seperately, two weeks in July, 3 bed cottage, plus crossing - about £2500.

You are really going to struggle I'm afraid - we normally book out most of July/August during the winter months.

However, you're a tasty prospect for a gite owner, so it might be worth advertising what you're looking for in various places and hoping you find someone who isn't renting it out yet, but wouldn't mind renting out to one customer over the summer.
