OK, I just found out classic car insurance is cheap. The only thing that seems to limit it is anything over group 16.

Car's I looked at so far:

E36 Coupe 328i which is about £600 to insure

Golf VR6 MK3

Nissan 300zx TT Apparently too powerful to insure under classic insurance banghead

Anyway simple really: Up to £3k, 15 yrs or older and I reckon group 16 or less in insurance.

Try a different insurer. That's a load of crap.

I've had a Porsche 944 turbo (Gp 20) and a Merc 190E 2.3-16 (Gp 17/18) on classic policies. Both were less than £150 for a garaged, 2nd car, with a 5,000 mile limit.

I used to have a 1982 XJ-S V12 (5.3 litre 295hp hehe ) on a classic policy when I was 19 and at Uni. Sublime engine, silky smooth and sounds fab with some custom exhaust pipes. Will do over 150mph and sprint to 60mph in under 7 seconds effortlessly biggrin

I had my BMW Alpina B10 Bi Turbo on a classic policy. £150 per year FC with free trackday cover, guaranteed £13K value and 5,000 miles per year. Defo a good way to go but £600 sounds pricey.

My 3K would go on any of the following.....its too hard to choose!:
- BMW 635CSi Coupe
- very early Audi S2
- Any BMW E12/E28
- BMW E34 540i V8
- mint Mk1 Golf Gti
- Peugeot 106 S1 Rallye
- BMW E30 325i Sport with slippy diff
- Merc 190E Cosworth
- BMW E36 Alpina B2.5

Just be careful with a classic policy that you are accruing a NCB that other 'normal' insurers will recognise in the future....

I tried, but no one would insure me on the policy with anything over grp 16. Maybe because I'm under 25?? In fact they wouldn't insure the Yugo on classic either? I asked them why since its over 15yr old, first they said its not the right type of car???? Then they said because I'm under 25!!!
