Ok so heres the deal, I need some ideas for fundraising about £700,000.

The Stonehaven Sea Cadets are trying to raise this money for a new unit as the lease runs out on the place that we have in the next 5 years and as the place is falling down we thought it would be best to get a new place built/converted instead of renewing the lease. We already have a building that we can convert to a unit. But the cost of this conversion is going to be MASSIVE.

So if anyone has any ideas for fund raising then please let me know thumbup

no we cant pimp out the cadets or sell drugs smile

Bloody hell, £700k for Sea Cadets. I hope it is a big unit.

When I was in the ATC we did an aeroplane tow with cadets, a sponsored climb, knocking on doors, sponsorship, buy a brick, etc. The you have all the grants that are available.

Try everything from lottery funding to bag packing at Tesco to be honest matey. as the sky really is the limit with groups like this.

A lot really depends on the area you are in and the amount of money you can put in, for example you could have a massice fair in the middle of summer but you would have to initially fund this and be in an area where a lot of people would turn up otherwise you will end up needing more funding than when you started!

Hi

For this sum I would recommend subscribing to an online fundraising Trusts and Foundations database. It might cost a couple of hundred quid but will provided you with a searchable resource for funders interested in your specific cause.

Is this for 1 project? if so, you need to start by producing a rationale (case for support)

Then you should apply to the larger capacity funders first, once you have secured some funding then move to smaller funders. Finally you should 'mop up' with a community appeal, the tin shaking and local events etc.

Any questions drop me a PM - I've raised around £2.5m from Foundations and Corporates

P.S. Lottery bids are not always easy - suggest you try to find someone who has made these applications previously - even look for a freelance statutory fundraiser and pay them - it's a lot of form filling, good copy writing and also being able to match with their current criteria (which often involves making a bid with a partnership)

Try all the grants etc etc.
You have 5 years to raise it so, go to all carnivals etc carrying buckets, loads of local events, car washes, London Marathon for sponsorship, 3 peaks, kayak the channel?
Buy a brick?
Sponsorship from businesses so whenever your in the paper etc you mention their name etc.
Get local trades to do it for sponsorship in the papers etc.
See if the kids parents are sparkys / chippies / plumbers etc & will help out for free?

Forgot about this and a couple of my ideas frown But anyway...

One thing I did whilst in cadets when we were raising money for 'vulcan to the sky' was going down to RAF Leuchars air show, We got a lot of sponsorship money then, and just doing things like handing out fliers etc etc.

Not much I know but the RAF leuchars went really well and we raised a LOT of money from it and got a lot of interest, also helped out our squadron quite well too!

I would opt for a grant, there are many available depending on what slant you bid on.

Some of those ideas are really great.

Good call on getting the big grant stuff first. I think the Unit Monetary Commitee (sp) are working on that at the moment, with regards to the Lottery funding and such.

Parakitamol I will PM you once I have more information. Thanks so much for your help.

I will mention a few of the ideas to the unit CO as I dont think they have been put forward yet.

Cheers thumbup
