..............why have the majority of drivers stopped indicating? Seemed to start motorways, few drivers incicating to join traffic or change lanes and then migrated to roundabouts. Now even at T junctions drivers are failing to indicate. Have I missed something? Have the rules changed? Are manufacturers only fitting indicators as optional extras?

WTF is going on??

Only indicate if a car or pedestrian will benefit from it.

I usually drive a lot faster than anyone else and don't slow down for corners so I don't need to indicate much as it doesn't effect people behind me because they don't need to slow down etc

I always do on roudnabouts though, I hate s that don;t indicate on roundabouts.

Not just german makes of car, havent really noticed it is confined to one or two manufactureres. Fords, Vauxhalls, BMWs, Audis, all cars really.

As for driving quickly, well I do too and it dosent stop me from indicating! wink Should be almost automatic really ie done without thinking about it.

This is precisely why some of us don't signal when there would be nobody to benefit, to stop it becoming automatic.

I especially hate the people that indicate to come off the roundabout too early when it makes them look like they're coming off the exit before the one they want. Grr.

Im not really talking about this as such. If I can see people not indicating then there is obviously someone behind! smile

I find that some people do indicate, but see this as a right of way.

The "I'm indicating, therefore even though you are level with me, I can still pull out and change lanes" school of driving it seems.

It does not bother me one bit if they do or don't. Half the time they never go the way they are indicating.

Here we go... Waiting for the 'I only indicate if it effects someone'. The usual BS you get from taxi drivers and reps.
Instead of having to consider every drivers actions around you why not just fking indicate anyway because 9 times out of 10 your not as good as you think and will have pissed someone off by not indicating.

It's a switch at the end of your finger tips not a 50kg dumbell.

There will always be someone, who loves their Vauxhals so much, they don't realise that they're actually a member of the "German tank" family.

People indicating in one direction but going the opposite is also so commonplace now that I have stopped taking it for face value. people may as well not indicate at all as far as I am concerned as I will try to leave myself room to maneuvre in case it's one of them idiots.

If you aren't considering every road users actions around you then your manoevre is liable to cause chaos indication or no indication.

Why? I have no idea. Perhaps just a reflection on the state of society these days, where people just do what they want.

Personally, I was taught to signal every time, regardless of whether I can see any other road user, because my signal may be seen by another road user that I didn't see.

But as a poster above has said, more people now seem to treat a signal as "I am now moving into your lane, as my orange flashing light means I have right of way"...

"But, Vauxhall is British". Except they're a German designed, German/Spanish built car from an American company. smile

What about the people in front of you on dual carriageways that are trying to pull out to overtake? Do they not need to know that you're barrelling along and just about to pull out to overtake them?

Or are you one of those morons who only ever drives in the outside lane anyway, so never needs to indicate. rolleyes

So basically a member of the "German tank" family.
A twice removed poorer cousin maybe, but still a member :P

I indicate when there is something to indicate about, and there is someone to indicate to.

As a couple of the previous posters have said, you should only indicate if your intention to turn, change lane, etc. would affect others. This is what you're taught when you train for your advanced driving test (at least with RoSPA).

By making you consider who's around you, you actually have to pay closer attention to (e.g.) your mirrors to see what's going on and it forces you to improve your observation techniques in general.

You need to consider whether there are pedestrians, cyclists, vehicles in front, behind and alongside you who might benefit from you indicating before deciding whether you should indicate.
