Hey,

Had the old flashing gears display on my 2003 audi a4 which appears to common on the multitronics. took it down to audi who said it was defective multi function switch in the gearbox control unit. £1450 to fix, found an independent called indie tech in milton keynes that will do it for £899. But how about sending it off for repair with the ecu centre? seems a lot cheaper and with 2 or 3 year warranty. anyone done it or have advice? was thinking bout using this lot http://www.ecutesting.com/audi_a4_a6_prnds_light_f...

also it's stalling when coming to a stop which is apparently breather hoses

any thoughts.

Sorry not much help, but curious about the problem. Is it an auto / DSG type gearbox?

What does Audi want to do for your £1400? Is it a box out - change part - box back in type job?

Hi thanks, for the response. It's one of those multi-tronic automatic gearboxes. They want £1450 to replace the ECU + fit, there diagnosis was faulty multiswitch in ecu. Also they wanted £264 to fix the glovebox + £364 to fit breather hoses as well as £102 for a new key remote. At £135 pounds an hour there not worth it

Mine wa sent off to this company this morning, and they should get it tommorow before noon. I'll let you know my thoughts, but to-date I've not heard a bad word said against them

I've just realised that isn't that actually quite a big job to get to the gearbox ecu? I think you have to drain oil etc.... I could always pay for the part myself then take it to a garage but then if that doesn't fix the problem i'll be left with a bill and in no better position

The faulty part is the Mechatronic control unit which is normally ordered from VAG by the chassis number of your car. Its an expensive part (£1500 sounds about right) so other than saving a few quid on the labour at an indi, I doubt you will get it done much cheaper.

Just to confirm it is not just an ECU, but contains all the hydraulic actuators and whatnot that moves the clutches/gear shafts etc.

Yes you have to drain the oil etc.

This thread is another reason I prefer manual boxes.

Had my manual transmission fully rebuilt for less than the cost of the Audi spangly-tronic ecu-thingamie.

right then, ecutesting.com

I used theirt web page to book my itme in- they ask me to tell everythign about it (including the porblems), and print this off to send with the car.

I sent the unit off using royal mail next day delivery. Soon after 9am, I got an e-mail and a text trelling me the unit had arrive,d and gave me a reference number.

I then got a phone call a short while later, where they told me they had tested the unit. They couldnt find anything wrong with it (which is a big headache for me, but I digress) and will send it back

I got an e-mail and text from them saying the item had been dispatched, and here is the royal mail tracking code

The item arrived the next day (this morning). It was well protected, and they had shrink-wrapped the unit and then bubble wrapped the unit.

In all, wonderful service. I loved the information- many suppliers you send them off and never really know whether they recieved it or not, and often I find I have to chase them to see whats what. With ecutesting, they chased me. Very effecient

I would recommend them
