SAS rescues hostages against orders not to embarrass Gordon
Discussion
The politicians are playing a dangerous game there. The one thing you've got believe to put yourself in that sort of danger is that your government will not hang you out to dry like that. It's one thing accepting the risk on a deniable mission, but to get shafted like that - Bad form.
And why the hell aren't warriors fitted with external fire suppression systems given how regularly they petrol bombed?

The SAS launched a daring mission to rescue two of its own men held hostage in Iraq against the orders of the Ministry of Defence, the Daily Mail can reveal.
The elite unit was pushed to the brink of mutiny after it was banned from saving the SAS soldiers captured by militants because to do so would embarrass the Government.

And yet today there will still be a large majority of the population who will vote for the complete scum that is our government (or the "just as fluffy" lib-dems"). How can people vote for a government that holds our armed forces in such contempt to send them into battle and then not give them absolutely everything they need. The elite unit was pushed to the brink of mutiny after it was banned from saving the SAS soldiers captured by militants because to do so would embarrass the Government.

I find myself hating politicians more and more for the complete cowardice they regularly display.

Did you expect any different?I think, hope even, that I'll always be slightly naive to how low pure evil can go.

Of course Politicians are in control - Maggie gave the order to go in during the Iranian embassy incident. You let the SAS loose on every mission and there would be mayhem and allot of dead enemy & UK soldiers. They are not super human beings that catch bullets with there teeth. They sometimes need to be reigned in. I dont agree with what happened with this incident but try and look at the bigger picture.
Right. But I kind of hoped they had a chain of command somewhere inbetween the guy with the rifle and the Prime Minister. I guess Gordon's busier than I've given him credit for.

This is why a lot of our Army is away from home; Their loyalty is to each other and the queen. The politicians do not like this
Was that a typo? Do you actually know any soldiers? I know a few and they couldnt give a toss about her Majesty.Wanta996Gotta said:

Was that a typo? Do you actually know any soldiers? I know a few and they couldnt give a toss about her Majesty. Now I haven't just come in a bubble in Belfast Lough and I know that the government exercises power and decides how and when the armed forces are used. Rightly so too, as the last thing any democracy wants is politicised armed forces (or police, or civil service etc). But they are Her Majesty's Government and are crown servants just as I am. God forbid it should ever happen, but if a situation arose where a future government was at loggerheads with the Crown (in effect rebelled) I know which side I would be on. Most (not all, it must be said) thinking service people that I know have a similar outlook to mine.
Article is flawed. Obvious propaganda on voting day.
Mentions twice in the text that the men were freed from a police station but in the idiot box story book it states that they were held in a "villa".
Soldiers in civilian clothes carrying arms and explosives being arrested is a non-story. Then follow due process to release.
Storming a police station only makes you wonder what was really happening. After all the UK is there to help teach the difference between right way and the wrong way to run a country , non?

ks to even discussing the government over this or we'll forget the real issue; to praise the SAS for their ability and camaraderie. Fair play to the lads for going ahead anyway, upmost respect.
