Video: Bentley Mulsanne On The Road
Is Bentley's new flagship a looker? You decide...
Away from the bright lights and wide-angle lenses of the motorshow stand - and out on the road where it belongs - we're starting to approve of the way the new Bentley Mulsanne looks.
A little more sober than the Rolls-Royce Ghost, and certainly less ostentatious than the Phantom, the Mulsanne looks grand without being too 'in your face'. The perfect choice of businessman's express in these uncertain financial times perhaps? I mean, given the option, would you rather be driving the Mulsanne, or either of the Rolls models through the centre of Athens today?
Looks apart, you can read what we thought about the Mulsanne in our drive story here.
Discussion
Bizarrely, my main problem with the Mulsanne is the interior - those veneers are too polished for my taste and they end up looking like plastic. The actual car itself has never looked that bad to me, though I suspect it's very colour sensitive. It's a completely academic point as I can't afford one
I don't think it's a bad looking car at all for the market segment. But Boy Oh Boy, that has to be the most awfully edited promo film I have EVER seen! A good portion of the filming is questionable in terms of making the car look good, but as the editing is soooooo bad, I'm suspecting the best looking shots of the car might well have been left on the cutting room floor. Bentley PR please look elsewhere for production companies to do your cars justice!!!
The Grill looks like something off an old Austin Maxi or Vanden Plas. In fact i think the front looks very london taxi. The rest of it looks OK, i suppose.
The thing is when you buy a car like this and although i'm sure it does what it does perfectly, it's not really a great looker is it.
I think i'd rather have the Rolls.

Werid, i thought it was produced well but, Why is it so appulaingly crap quality/resoulution!It looks like it is smiling weakly and about to break into tears because it is being bullied!
ETA: They are clearly trying to make a RR, which is not what Bentleys were about. I don't like the way the LED indicators are hidden in the running lights and rapidly switch on/off unlike traditional lamps. Note to VW: ramp the PWM drive to make them look more appropriate to a sporting gentleman's transport not a German engineer.
