Hope it all gets sorted with minimum fuss for you.

Will do

Going to be very interested to see how they deal with this as I have countless witnesses to being in work and the car is kept in a secure car park

Photos should prove interesting

Just hope the red light is the worst of it!

Hope you manage to clear your name/plate, and I hope that this is the last of it, but get ready for all number of parking/speeding/bilking letters arriving on your mat.

This happened to my boss at work. The photo clearly showed the plate was attached to an Isuzu Trooper and not his Toyota Celica GT4.
He had to fill out some forms to officially dispute the claim and send in some evidence to back up the dispute (a picture of the front of his car in this case).
Although you would expect that to be a simple and straightforward process it still took a number of letters & forms going back & forth over a period of a couple of months (including a threatening letter from bailiffs) before it was all settled.
The most frustrating aspect was that all communication had to be done by letter/snail mail. There was no email or phone number that could be used to talk to a real person.

Good luck - I hope you get it sorted quicker & easier than he did!

Actually,

what I should be saying is if anyone spots a BMW M3 with plate M333 MNS anywhere but in the realms of the west country M5 J21 (Bristol area) - M4 J10 (Reading/TVP) and more interestingly in the Harrow/MIddlesex area, please give me a PM

Cheers all

Have you seen the picture yet? Are you sure it's on an M3?

Nope

No picture, and unlike a recent speeding offence no web address to view pics

They do state BMW M3 in the letter, but thats just a straight pull from the DVLA I would imagine?

They will have got your details from DVLA using your reg no. The car that plate is on could be anything - they don't use a brain connected to a pair of eyes to actually take a look at the picture to see if it really in on an M3. Taxes on motoring don't stretch that far rolleyes

Had this on the exes Clio a few years ago, from Harrow too.
I'd recommend you put a sticker in your back window so that when you take a picture of it it is clearly not the same as the real offending car.
We ended up getting about 30-40 tickets over a 3mth period, but it came to a head when the car was involved in a hit and run. Police came round expected to see the clio damaged - luckily it wasn't so we were in the clear.
Got authorisation from DVLA to change plates at no cost. It was the only way to sort it out.

Diz (and all)

thanks for your help

Reported to Thames Valley Police and obtained a crime number

Now writing to the met requesting a copy of the photo and explaining the situation

I work in a secure environment and have records of swiping in and out, together with photos and times of the car entering the car park so hopefully this will be quite easy to prove

Like I said before - when this happened to my boss there was absolutely no attempt to match the cars. He has a Celica GT4 and the clone was an Isuzu Trooper. All they care about is not getting caught doing things like not paying for fuel, speeding, congestion charges etc. None of those care about matching the plate to the car at the time - only an observant policeman in an ANPR equipped car will catch them.

You will note that I have not stated:

b) where on the car the sticker(s ???) are located
