Scottish Italian Car And Bike Day

No, it's not Lambos deep-fried in batter...

It must be tough sometimes being a petrol head in Scotland. Although you're never far from some of the UK's most magnificent driving roads you are a long way from, well, everywhere else, but most especially you're a long way from most of the larger car meets.

Fortunately, Scottish fans of Italian cars and bikes will have somewhere to go to fuel their passions this August, when Hopetoun House on the outskirts of Edinburgh holds the second Scottish Italian Car and Bike Day.

Last year's inaugural event was limited to 150 cars and bikes, but this year the organisers hope to gather 500 Italian cars and bikes.

Centrepiece of the show will be a display of legendary designer Marcelo Gandini's most famous creations, including - among others - Lamborghinis Countach, Diablo, Espada, Jarama, and Miura, the Fiat X1/9, Alfa Romeo Montreal and Maserati Khamsin.

There will also be Italian-themed food and drink, and supercar drive-past. The day is free, but the organisers hope to make some money for HUSH, the UK EColi help and support group.

The Scottish Italian Car and Bike Day is on 15 August

Being a fan of anything with an engine rather than just the cars, it would have been nice to have some pictures of the italian bikes on show as well...

Mainly Ducati's I presume, but there might have been a few tasty MV, Benelli or Leverda there too.

Edit: ...and Aprilia, how could I forget Aprilia!

Should be a good day. I'll bring the Bravo along if anyone wants to see the future of motorsport, the mighty 4-pot turbo under the bonnet.

Just to clarify the pricing for the event, Hopetoun House are still charging for entry to the grounds and prices are as follows:

For owners of Italian cars and bikes wishing to exhibit - £5

For visitors coming along to look at the displays - £3.70 for adults, £2.20 for children, OAPs/children £3.20 and family tickets £10

For those of you wishing to exhibit then please get in touch with the relevant club rep here http://www.italiancarandbikeday.co.uk/?page_id=35

We've also got a Facebook page with lots of great pictures from last years event but unfortunately I can't link to that as I'm at work at the moment (shhhhhhhhhhhh).

I'm really looking forward to us getting a Lancia Stratos, Lamborghini Miura, and a host of tasty bikes (the noise of them revving out the front of the house was magnificent) and also sampling some of the Italian food we are planning to organise for the day.

If anyone on here has access to the owner of an Italian hypercar then please get in touch. It would be fantastic to get hold of a Zonda or an Enzo for the day!!

In actual fact, it looks like a good day out but it's a bloody long drive for me. Easyjet and a rental maybe??
