HI,

I have recently bought a BMW 535 D M Sport and was considering having it RE-mapped for even better performance and fuel economy....

Could anyone please advise of the best company to do this?

Your repsonce and advice would be much appreciated.

Best Regards

Fancy a drive to Heathrow area to have it done? The return journey will be an enjoyable one to experience the new found power! biggrin

The guy that has mapped 4 of my cars is up this way. Highly recommended, but good mappers are all over the UK.

DMS based in Southampton, you won't regret it...approx £750, plenty others may do it cheaper..

The guys at Evolve in Luton are very very good ; particularly good reputation with BMs oil burners too. The link below includes a review of the 3.0 TT used in the 535D.

I'd reccomend DMS in Southampton also. The owner has an M5 and a 535d and does some excellent work, his 535d is seriously quick!

Google their number ask to speak to Roy, he did the map for his 535d

Hi there,
Another recommendation from me for A-L Tuning in Langley which is in the Slough area. Speak to Mike and quote that I, Dennis sent you. I had my E39 Diesel re-mapped and I've been beyond happy.

In order to keep a good sense of balance, I also suggest a little more research for yourself. This entails reading up the various companies and the cars they have reviewed in the various BMW magazines, speaking to them directly to ask questions and guaging their responses and depth of knowledge, checking here on forums of course as well!

For instance, quite a few 'well known' re-mappers I spoke to simply said 'your car is way too high mileage and can't be remapped' - When I pressed them as to why, they simply said 'we can't re-map a car above 100K miles' and those were the ones who actually spoke to me with some decent level of customer interaction, in a few cases I simply got, 'naa mate, go talk to someone else - click'

To give you a bit more of a listing of re-mappers with excellent feedback overall

Advanced Auto Technik - Also in Langley, Slough - sister companies to A-L Tuning who are in turn affiliated with CA Automotive.

DMS - as already mentioned, I've read and heard all good things from these guys in terms of their level of work and knowledge.

Paramount Performance - bit of a trend here! again, based in Slough, and I know the owner and spoken to him at length about various aspects. Although I personally haven't had any work from him done, I've seen some serious exotica on his rolling road - Konigseggs, Bugatti's and the usual plethora of Lambo's and Ferrari's etc.

A name that often pops up on the forums, is Simon at E-maps.

In BMW circles, the names above to pop up often and I've as yet, not heard any scathing negativity from any of them.

Please speak to them all and make a descision based on the feedback you get.

Cheers, Dennis!

Simon has a particularly good reputation on BMWland - post on there and you'll get an honest response. Even when things haven't gone to plan his customer service is second to none.

Yes, completely agree. He did my e39 and the difference was amazing. And he did a free check after I had some work done in a BMW garage to make sure they hadn't over-written anything.

Top bloke.

I've used AL and Mike and very very bad results and repeated return visits. However, they are an agent of CA Automotive a very good friend of mine who I don't think would lie and he explains my case was the only one with such bad experiences. I could only recomend against them however due to my experiences, hopefully it was a one off though!

Hi there,

Yes, I don't believe there's a single business in existence that hasn't had some negative experience with one or more customers, it's impossible to be perfect each and everytime.

The power of the forums is immense, you don't have to look far to come across a forum where a customer has recieved a negative experience with a vendor and has posted up about it. I am soon to be launching my own business and I really worry about perhaps one customer just not liking something or an aspect of my service and will post publically about it and potentially negatively impact me. The usual cliche applies, customer service and satisfaction I place very very highly, but really, I'm worried about that aspect now ! prior to actually launching!

I'm sure the guys at A L Tuning, CA and for that matter, any other reputable company didn't mean to give you bad experiences, and in this case it does sound like an isolated incident.

To the OP - as I said in my first response, do as much research and evaluation that suits you with all forms of feedback and knowledge and make your own choice smile

Cheers ! Dennis!

Well said. Can;t please everyone all of the time!

Er.... back to topic but a 535d with an M body kit isn't really or nearly an M so probably posted in the wrong section! Sorry!

An advantage with the Evolve map is you can get it with a box so that when you take the car in for service you transfer the map to the box, then when you get the car back you put the map back on.

If (with normal maps) they update the car with the map on you lose the map but with the box you put it back on when you get it back.

If you sell the car you have to sell it either with the map on the car, or take it off and sell the car without it.

I could tell you some cracking stories about some of the names mentioned. In fact some of them are downright rip off artists.

No problem with Simon at emaps though, known him for years and he knows what he is doing yes

I would only use DMS, there are lots doing this sort of stuff, most don't have the years of experience or after sales that DMS offer, pay the extra and get it done properly

Lot's here about the Evolve Switch and a thread about Evolve and there is a User guide It looks a bit complicated but it is all explained in detail when the car is re-mapped.
