...about in a retail store.

After reading the (now possibly) infamous Subway thread hehe - what is the most pointless thing you have seen a member of public arguing pointless about in a shop?

When I worked in a drycleaners after leaving school, when on the counter some middle aged guy came in looking furious - properly red faced and practically trembling with rage, started shouting at me about the fact his suit was not ready, and that we kept promising that it would be ready, and that I would be in "really big trouble young man" if I did not get this sorted now.

I had not seen this guy and had been on the counter all week, so was a bit confused at this point. The guy then slammed his collection ticket on the counter while calling me an ignorant **** and all sorts. I then took a deep breath and politely pointed out that the collection ticket was in fact for the dry cleaners down the road (a totally different company), and that he should probably take it up with them. He then stormed out in front of a shop full of people, banging the door on his way out muttering about how useless I was hehe

Some of the average public are just mind bogglingly dumb - there must be a few interesting tales on here hehe

I was in currys looking at the digital cameras in my lunch break with my shirt and tie on and a bloke came up to me asking where the headphones were, I said I dunno mate probably up the back with the HiFi.

At this point he went bright red and started to give me a lecture on good customer service, I stood there open mouthed as his wife dragged him away tutting about my appalling attitude, he then marched over to the store manager at the checkouts and started pointing in my direction.

At this point he turned white and his wife walked off, I presume the manager told him I didn't work there.

I work for a bank, reguarly get people that have card payments come out of their account and go overdrawn then say it's the banks fault and they won't pay the charges.

I point out that the charge/charges has/have already left. They then 99% of the time say "i'm closing my account then!!!!!!111!111one!1" (but they never actually do close the account, they just threaten to do so) I just say "ok that's fine, if you visit a branch they can do that for you" and they seem confused that I haven't begged them to keep the account open laugh and sometimes even ask "do you want me to close the account?" laugh

NatWest have always refunded charges when asked to in my experience, so I'm not surprised people try it on with other banks.

hehe

I've lost count of how many times I've asked someone a similar question who turns out not to be an employee. Makes you feel like a right tit when they reply that they don't work there, almost as if you've insulted them. It's nearly as bad as when you were at school and accidentally called the teacher "Mam".

When I worked in a CD store I served a customer that wanted to pay with HMV vouchers and went mental at me when I said he couldn't. He wanted the CDs, he wanted my blood, he wished a pox on my family and questioned my parentage. It was only when I explained that the shop he was in wasn't a branch of HMV that he calmed down and presented his visa card.

I was laughing, my boss was laughing, the other customers were laughing hehe

I liked that job.

I was in a clothes shop the other day trying on jeans. It was a little fashionable independent store where the (numerous) assistants wear civvies not a store uniform. I came out of the changing rooms and decided I didn't want any of the jeans I'd tried on so handed them to the nearest bloke standing by the shelves saying "no, don't want any of these mate" and walked off. It was only when I saw his shoulder bag on his back that I realised he was a fellow shopper and not an assistant laugh He did look a little bewildered when I did it but I thought nothing of it at the time.

My sister went spastic at a doctor.
Her GP said she should get a consultation after my mum died to check she wasn't at risk.
She didn't want to go but I convinced her.
She travelled 20 miles and took a day off work.
The doctor just said "I've looked over your mothers records and you're only at risk if 2 people in the same family have had it happen to them.."

She went spastic. It was so embarrassing.

I work for Wickes, delivering kitchens and stuff - usually to customer's homes, but occasionally we deliver to Wickes stores and I have to go in to the store to let them know we're at the back gate with a delivery.

Several times now I've been approached by a punter:

"Excuse me mate, can you tell me where the paint/hinges/sinks/timber are?"

I'm standing there in my Wickes fleece, my Wickes polo shirt and my Wickes trousers and say:

"Sorry mate, I don't work here."

Bemused.

Not so much kicking off, but I was standing at my comapanies table at a black tie awards thing talking to my staff when some knob on the table next to me tugged my elbow and asked for the wine list.

I think he was more embarrassed than me when it was pointed out. I think his table took the piss out of him more than mine did of me.

Can't see the problem, customer said they will close the account & he offered to provide that service for them.

When I worked at Currys in my youth, a bloke came in carrying a boxed up microwave. He walked up to the desk and dropped in from chest height onto the floor with a mock "ooops" expression on his face as he did so. You heard the glass inside break, and could imagine the other damage it must have caused. He started ranting about how useless we all were as employees, and how he had been sold faulty microwave, after faulty microwave - and that he had just made sure that this one definitely WAS faulty.

He slapped his receipt on the desk and told us to sort it out - standing back to allow us to bask in his magnificent glory. Which is when my colleague pointed out that he bought the microwave from Comet (in the next retail back down from us), and that they probably wouldn't accept it back if it had been dropped.

The guy went crimson, snatched the receipt back and stormed out.

If someone is in a position that they're incurring bank charges then they may well be in a distressed frame of mind and the customer deserves to be treated politely and not with contempt and goaded as IMO RY_B's post suggests.

Where i work, we give people thier items in paper bags.

One customer came back 2 days later with said paper bag and told us to recycle it. By recycle, she meant use it for someone else.

The bag had her name on it which she had dutifully scribblied out and she had obviously sat on it at some point. In short, there is no way we were going to give it out again.

We politely decline.

She then starts ranting about the environment and how we are clearly ignorrent of deforestation etc.

Then she has the idea that we could save the bag for next time she is in.
We decline again. (its too much effort to save a single bag for one person for over a month just to give it back to her, besides, we would probably lose it anyway, we are very busy)

We then suggest she take it home and put in in her own recycling and then she went absolutetly ape poop at us!

how could we have the audacity to tell her to recycle her own bag after refusing to do so ourselfs?!?!?!?!?!

Barmy.
