What about a prepaid card

They claim to have no cash withdrawal fees. I was looking for USD today and recalled seeing this. I haven't used it myself but it is an alternative to taking a suitcase of cash.

I'm just back from the US, so looked into cash options. We ended up taking about $1000 in cash then using credit/debit cards for big purchases and then withdrew cash on my debit card. Exchange rate (especially on my card) worked out really well.
Also check with a prepaid card at the post office and also do a search for bank accounts that allow you to make withdrawals without charging, someone about recommended Nationwide, think Santander do something similar, but you have to have an account with them already.
