Just on the quick, where'd be best to get wheels balanced? Heard enough horror stories about Kwik Fit to be dubious even with the smallest of jobs, but basically are there any other chains in that sort of vein which won't mug me off? smile

I would go to a small independant tyre place to be honest

Go to elite - http://www.elitedirect.com/ They are in Rainham.

I use them and they always seem pretty good, the smaller ones don't always do such a good job.

Kwik Fit are so good that they can undertake wheel balancing whilst at the same time diagosing that you need new tyres, disks, pads and exhaust, all without actually looking at these items on your vehicle.

I went to KF as I was passing about 6 months ago to get the wheels balanced on Mrs DS's car. I got into quite a bad confrontation with two of the staff who "could not let me leave" as the tyres were illegally worn and dangerous. This is a set of F1s which even now have about 3 or 4mm or more of tread on them. I told them to f--k off.

I quite fancy going to KF for a wheel balancing today to see what they recommend to me, record it all and send it to Trading Standards.

My local KF are actually very good and look to save me money.

Local indie wouldn't repair puncture well within limit on my 540 - KF "No need for a new tyre sir that will repair". Same wisdom used with a number of people the same day.

KF also sorted the tracking on my 540 perfectly.

KF also witnessed asking customer how many miles a week they cover before advising them not to spend on new tyres just yet.

Reasonable chaps and always very helpful.

Taking the van in tomorrow for balancing and tracking.

You get good branches and bad ones.

hitchin KF told me that would not need new tyres for a good 1000 miles, but that took me a bit over a week, one of the downsides of company cars, if you think the tread is low, they wont replace it until really low and not always easy to get them changed

but the guys in luton were very helpful with the hire car I got delivered to me in the dark, eventually realised the front tires had no tread worth speaking of, cue 90 mins wait which was better than me possibly getting points....
