I voted yesterday - I did it because I felt I had to, my civic duty and all that.

However, the person I voted for didn't get in - in effect I feel that my "voice" won't be heard (not that I'm convinced that my voice would be heard anyway).

Was my vote - my opinion - wasted?

So you voted for the wrong person? Should you have voted for the winner afterall

It's the collective of everyones voice and opinion that gives us the result. Your vote was not wasted because you added your voice to that mix. It's just that this time the majority thought different...or rather not different enough to get the majority of seats.

My vote was wasted. I live in Salford and Eccles, and despite the fact that that daft bint hazel blears was shown to be on the take more than most of them, the local unemployed scroungers have voted her in again with a massive, massive majority.

It was inevitable..

I was tempted to go for a "protest" vote, but those options were UKIP, Green and BNP*

* Given that my parents were not born in this country (and I was), voting for those morons would have been a contradiction in terms.

Unless you are a labour voter you voting was a waste of time.

I'm not a Labour voter (no prizes for who I voted for at any rate) - But given their track record, I had hoped that there would have been a swing.

And that's my point entirely.

So if a seat has a 10,000 majority in favour of the incumbent and hasn't changed hands in decades you think voting against them will make the slightest bit of difference?

No wonder we are stuck with the current electoral system.

If you don't vote, you have no right to complain about the results imo.
If you vote you don't have any right to complain about the system imo.

Shouldn't that be the other way around?

Rubbish, How else do you expect to change a system if the one time you have a chance to make a point you don't do it?

No.

If you are happy with our current system of government go ahead and change the monkeys in charge every few years. Some of us don't support the current system of representative democracy and will not take part in it.

What are you talking about? You feel that your vote was wasted because the person you voted for didn't win?
Do you feel that you should have just voted for the person who won irrespective of your views or principles?
Do you understand how elections work?

And because of that it will never be changed. The new Government won't decide to change the democratic system because Fittster moans on PH about it. They will change it if enough people voted for that change. Which is exactly why people should vote using the current system.
