I find it fascinating how the country has voted - the big rural constituencies are largely all blue. The tiny inner city constituencies are typically red.

When you look at the size of the labour constituencies it does add weight to the claims of unfair play WRT the re-organisation of the boundaries.

ETA to add alternative view - taking out geographical size.

Click in the 'Proportional' box on the BBC's map and it looks a lot closer. There are lots of constituencies in a small area in cities so there are plenty of voters, just less land area.

Size by area or size by number of people though? Not hard to imagine one of the tiny (area) London constituencies having as many people as one of the huge Scottish highland ones.

I think the point is that the populations of the constituencies are comparable if not equal which is more important than geographical area.

Absolutely - I would imagine some of London's smallest by area house many many more voters. It's a pity you can't interrogate it by demographic as well. It would be interesting to see whether the Daily Mail claims of Labour voters being welfare scroungers has any truth to it.

They didn't vote. They tried, but got out of bed far too late and didn't get to the polling station before it was shut.

It's not surprising at all if you've ever been to the red areas.....
