Right another what car, sorry about that. This may be long...

I currently have a '95 Pug 106 inca in 1.0L, 4 gear flavour and while it is reliable it is horrid for the most weekend return drive from Bath to Norwich and it is driving me insane. Especially since the radio is also broken. So the question is...

On a very tight budget, thinking I might get 3-400 maybe for the Inca, it is in very good condition and reasonably low mileage for its age (78,000), it is also very reliable and has recently had some bits and bobs done and I believe had no advisories on the MOT - dad sorted it for me as car was in Coventry me in Bath, so haven't seen certificate. I don't really have much more money to put towards it so looking at an absolute top end of £1000 lets say.

On the insurance front, I don't think it should be too much of a problem for anything reasonably sensible. I am 23 and have 3 years no claims and over 5 years claim and crash free driving. Plus over 5 years as a named with no claims on that car.

So I am looking for something reasonable for the motorways while still being as much PH fun as possible, oh and it must be as reliable as possible as I don't want to swap a reliable car for a money pit.

Not totally sure if this is a possible brief really but I dread the drive every week and am trying to see if there is an alternative. Finally I am fine with having to do some spanner work now and then aslong as parts are cheap, though time is a little tight with a job and a Postgrad Masters to be getting on with.

To beat someone to it, I have thought about a budget '5 and would love that to be a solution but is it realistically possible to get a pretty much trouble free one for less than a grand?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Over to the floor...

Ryan

How about some kind of old Jag? Fairly simple engines to work on iirc, nice and comfy for the waft up the motorway, pretty safe old things too. Might give you a bit of a raping in the wallet department when you come to fill up though!
