Bad luck mate - I'm really gutted for you frown

Knowing how quickly GRP goes up and how bad the damage looks, I'm guesing you had a fire extinguisher or hosepipe close at hand when she went up?

Either way, a sad sight to see frown

What a sad and sorry sight, one that any wedger would not want to see, nor want to happen to any of us.
A real shame that yet another fine example has gone up in smoke. R.I.P

Gutted for you, a very sad sight.

I think the important thing for everyone to take from this is if your car is on fire just get the censored out of there, as much as we love our cars they aren't worth dying for.

Terrible, really sad to see one in that state you must be gutted.

Glad you are OK, as has been said before it's only (?) a heap of loosely assembled GRP & metal and is replaceable - you ain't.

I'm guessing that there was little or no warning.

Can't really add anything that hasn't already been said.

Glad no one was hurt but gutted for you. Fire must be a Wedge owners worst nightmare.

Christ that brings it home to you!!

Sad for you Paul, but you'll bounce back. What have your insurers said?
Don't get short changed by them either..

One assumes you will be getting another Wedge??

No doubt there will be some parts salvagble...don't suppose wheels are?

Paul,

Know exactly how you feel (see: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

If you want to rebuild it I guess the best you could hope for is a Cat C right off, which you should be able to buy back. I suspect the insurers will assess it as a 'B' though as they seem to have issues with burnt GRP cars.

Apart from the Cat B, my insurers were very helpful and I think if the circumstances are clear as it was in my case then the settlement should be fairly quick. If it had a private plate on it you'll need to inform the insurance company asap by letter and phone call if you wish to retain it.

If you didn't have an agreed value you will need to have evidence of it's history, recent repairs etc to prove the market value.

Anyway, the main thing is no one was hurt.

Best of luck

Matt

Well the insurance approved repairer popped round yesterday and said write off, so now waiting for the insurers assesor to pop round on Tuesday and confirm and hopefully offer me the agreed value

Hoping to then buy back the car, cut the body of beneath the seats and bin the whole front end. Get the chassis / engine ancillaries back up to scratch , as probably need to sort out front corner (appears to be no grease left in wheel bearing)

Then look round for rear end write off or chassis bent or complete body (did see some at Blackpool last year - so may make some enquires) And hopefully rebuild her back again

Or fit a flip front on and have the makings of a racer yikes

Anyone know where the body mounting points are on the 400 ?

Try Plasticman, I think that is his name on here, I understand he builds GRP shells and part shells for TVR's.
