When Scotland opened up it's own Parliament, there were some calls and questions as to whether Scottish MPs should still be in the House of Commons, and voting on English/Welsh issues.

Labour naturally shouted the idea down.
If Tories do form a government would they be seeking to remove Scottish MPs from the commons? With such a large labour share in Scotland this would make future elections a much safer bet to get a Tory majority.

Might they try it?

The Tories need to work with the LibDems as things stand, and the LDs are strong in Scotland.

It's not going to happen in this parliament - the Tories would need a massive majority to get this through.

Cameron has already mentioned that he would address the West Lothian question. IMO the safest way to do so would be to establish a new convention amongst Scottish MPs that they do not vote in the Committee and Report stages of a Bill that only affects England (on a subject that is devolved in Scotland). I fear taking a formal approach may do more harm than good. Instead, he'd be better building upon the SNP's practice of abstaining from such votes - I believe the only Scottish Tory MP already does this as well. Get the Lib Dems onside (although this may be difficult as the Lib Dems do unproportionately well out of Scotland) and put the pressure on Labour.

The only "true" Scottish MP's at Westminster don't actually cast a vote on English issues, it's the labour trash that continue to feed the fires on this issue.

You work it out.

well said.

the tories will tread carefully - with one MP in Scotland .... if they wade in hard in the next 18 months they'll just advance the referendum case further and if there is a Con-LD alliance the LDs from scotland will be wary about anything that will come back to bite them.

The other thing to remember about the Tories is their full title: The Conservative and Unionist Party.

To cut loose Scotland flies in the face of one of their founding pricipals. Mind you they are politicians.....
