When I built my GTR some 10 years ago I drilled water drainage holes in the side pods. I thought it highly likely that water would get into the pods through the side vents. After my "incident" a couple of years ago I did not drill holes in the new side pods fitted by the factory (never got round to it) Last Sunday on the way to Stoneleigh, ditto and I, in our two car convoy, drove (floated) through some very heavy rain showers. On arriving at Stoneleigh I looked in the side pods to find about 1" of water. I could have used the GTR to transport fish! I do not have luggage bins fitted, they were not an option when I built my car, so was able to sponge the water out before the drive hame.
So, if you have bins fitted, do not have drainage holes and drive in the rain, you probably have a lot of "invisible" water sloshing about below your bins, eating away at your chassis side members! I therefore advise drilling some holes, but please avoid drilling through the bottom of your fuel tanks!

Whilst you have the drill in hand you may want to do the same on the doors.
If the car is out in the rain for a while then a small amount of water will seep through the helicopter vent, run down the inside face of the door, and in through the opening.
A hole drilled through the underside of the door right in the front corner will allow a drain when the door is open but is almost impossible to see.

I spoke to Richard at Stoneleigh about this. I did put two large (20mm) holes in the bottom of each side pod, towards the ends. I have since found that I have some rusting inside the cockpit, along the sides of the floor pan. When it rains a lot and the car is outside I get pools of water towards the front of the floor and have to sponge it out.
Richard agreed that I should put a few more drainage holes near to the chassis rails along the cockpit section to stop any buildup inside the pods. Sometimes when I have jacked the car up I get what looks like a gallon of water draining out, not good.
