Food & Drink. Snowdon will be busy enough for you not to talk a full sack.

A map, a compas, a whistle, a survival bag, some flares, a torch with spare batteries, an extra layer of dry/waterproof clothes, a waterproof hat, extra food & water, telephone or walkie talkie, etc etc

Or a new pair of flip-flops and a sun hat.

Yes food and drink. For me that meant a packet of jelly babies a packet of haribo a couple of flapjacks and some water.

My friend took a chicken and bacon sandwich, cheese pickle sandwich and a six pack of red bull. Halfway up the mountain, and halfway down my packet of jelly babies I was ready to mug my friend for his cheese and pickle, but I was too knackered.

Some sort of stick to take the weight off my knees would have been good on the way down as well.

My equipment consisted of: doc-martin boots, normal socks, jeans, t-shirt, gulf racing jacket, barmah hat, a bag that came free with some aftershave, a 1941 brass compass, a 1920 brass telescope, para cord, duck-tape, blister plaster things, lighter, glow sticks, and a bugged spark plug from a model t ford. (found it in my jacket pocket)

Food and drink most certainly: more drink than you think, it's a long way up and you'll get thirsty.

As to the rest? It depends which path you are doing. If you do the Llanberis one up along the extremely well marked path that virtually follows the railway you will be doing it alongside a zillion grockles and cannot possibly get lost.

If you do any of the other routes you will absolutely need a proper OS map and a compass. If you have a GPS take it.

Snowdon is a friendly mountain if you use the tourist route. It's a walk up, no scrambling and nothing really dangerous other then the possibility of bad weather and the wind getting up - which will make you cold and make it dangerous to be near edges. The other routes are not so friendly.

People die on Snowdon every year but barring freak accidents it's because they weren't properly prepared, got lost, got somewhere they shouldn't have been and got hit with bad weather.

Ginster's scotch egg as taken on all good Himalayan expeditions.

tbh, dried fruit, nuts and a couple of litres of water is probably the best value in terms of weight, but on the food front, I'd just take whatever you fancy. You're only looking to keep yourself going for a few hours. Snowdon is a proper, strenuous walk, and the weather can change pretty quickly (for example, in June/July it went from mild and sunny to thunderstorm with hail the size of cherry stones in the space of half an hour) ... nonetheless, it isn't remote.

p.s. when I say it's a walk, it's a walk if you stick to the main paths. If you chose to, you can make it as hair-raising and technical as you like.

I once got to the top (not Snowdon) and my bro suggested we have a beer. I replied "what idiot would carry the weight of beer up here". My bro then fished the tinnies out the bottom of my pack. bd.

The cafe will be open at the top anyway if you get hungry.

It's not quite Everest, you can always get the train back down.

Money for the train wink

Most routes up Snowdon are pretty easy if the weather's good, I'm sure you'll be fine.
