Need some help please folks i bought this watch off the father in law who's an avid watch collector, i just dont wear it so i thought id sell it.
Im reluctant to ebay due to the scammers on it and have approached a local jeweller.
He's given me 2 options - cash £525 or sell it £970 in the window then after vat and commision i get £670.
I bought the watch about 4 years ago for £800 and was hoping to get nearer that.

Is this a fair price?

The jeweller said it was in very good condtion and shouldnt have a problem selling it.

Are there any other avenues i could go down ?

Would a private sale fetch £800 ?

I can post pics but the watch is still at the jewllers however this is the watch http://milanclassic.net/images/200901/123129230786...

Many thanks
Chris

Do you have the Box & Papers for the watch?
That will make quite a big difference in the watch's value.

As already said box and papers will make a big difference to the price.
My gut reaction to a trader price is that is probably 50% of its value if not worse, although £800 4 years ago at 'mates rate' would put it north of £1k in my book now.
Why not try the PH watch selling section first to see if you get the money you are looking for. Also do you know what age it is as if 1960's then might be worth a little more as an important birthday watch to someone imho.

Yeah, worth checking the age and getting a few pics up. Both will help. smile

Maybe worth having a look at the chrono24 dot com website - if you do a search for rolex under United kingdom, you will be able to see what the dealers have these up for as well as private sales.

Also remember that an EU seller will be selling in euro, converting the price to £. At the moment it's making them look a bit more expensive than prices in the UK perhaps. You should get more than the £525 though I agree! (ETA - Just seen the UK one - def more than £525 then!)

There have been one or two of these on TZ over the last 6 months or so. They tend to make 550-750 which is not what you want to hear. Sorry.

There seems to be a major difference in prices ranging from £525 to £1600 - ebay seem to have them for around the £1,000 mark - ive had a couple of enquiries and have now got the watch back, post some piccies up later.

£1000 is an optimistic price, regardless of what you see these advertised for from a dealer. A Datejust Perpetual can be had from about £1100 up if you know where to look.

I would place a value of between £650 and £800 on this, with £700 probably being about the maximum I would pay.

The days of £600/$1,200 Precisions seem to have passed, as a result of Rolex's price rises and the collapse of Sterling. That said, Im not sure that till achieve £1,000: although it all depends who sees it and when..... Most of the black faces Ive seen have been 1980s pieces, but the case serial will confirm this for you.

Well after some consideration and on the basis the jeweller was looking to sell for £970 - i think ill give it a go at £850 ono after all its just been sitting in my sock drawer for the last 4 years doing nothing - so if it sells it sells if not ill drop the price.
Thanks for the advice folks.
