When I go walking or anywhere I might need a compass, I always take my T.G 1941 mk3 brass compass, but it is too heavy really.

I don't get on with the modern stuff you get from millets with the little plastic magnifying glass and so on. So does anybody make a plastic/nylon prismatic marching compass?

Any sailing hand bearing compass will do what you want, with the added bonus its ok to get soaking wet. However I cannot see it being much lighter.

Why not persevere with a romer scale compass. They really are far better tools for navigation, than the lensatic type. They're incredibly useful for distance calcs when you're step counting and working our your GR.

I use one of these in my mountain rescue duties and it is the best of both worlds IMO - I started with the type you did but you soon get used to it.
