which van could i get for not too much £1000 - £1500 obviously diesel that would fit a honda blackbird in. mpg are quite important as i do alot of miles etc. i think the obvious choice is a transit but they seem to rust quite badly so i am open to any other ideas.

bike trailers dont really appeal for some reason.

At that money most vans will be properly shagged.

Short wheel base Transit is your friend, plenty about at that money (plenty scrapped too so cheapish parts) so you might just get a reasonable one.

A T4 transporter would be miles better if you can get one within budget

You might need to measure up the inside of a transit, as my R1 is pretty close the edge on a SWB Transuit & Compact Vito.

Ebay and take your time. I got a Vito for £720, it's 10 years old, but only 70,000 miles and in pretty good nick, but there were some horrors on there too. it took 3 months to find it though.

A looked after Vito or one of the Fiat/Peugoet/Citroen Scudo etc vans would do the job without being as "big" as a tranny.

If you want a medium sized reliable van forget french and look at Toyota Hi Ace / power van.

They look a bit crap but they are far more reliable than the other options and are 'car like' to drive.
