Had my MX5 for 9 days now, replaced an Octavia vRS and I am really enjoying it.
Last week was all about the driving, did the PH run around Glencoe, this weekend was meant for cleaning.
Things didn't quite go quite as planned!
Started off ok - foamed the car, then washed, dried and clayed.
Taped it up ready to start with my new rotary polisher and got to work....and my brand new DAS-6 polisher gave up the ghost after 90 seconds!!!
Sounds like the clutch has gone as it makes the right noises, but just doesn't rotate
So I didn't get the car polished to remove the various marks in the paint, and haven't waxed it either but I did de-tango the sides, and fit my all-important Pistonhead smiley badge.

I also put my hardtop storage bag up on the wall - really impressed with the quality!

Nice car. Are these later cars any better for resisting rust in the sills etc than the mk1 models? i.e. if you buy a 2002/2003 it should be relatively rust free?
Mine is. I guess it depends on how the individual car has been looked after, but I would think an '02 vintage car would be relatively rust free.mark_mcd said:

Er, no, not really. As bad as that is. Even very late Mk2.5 cars are suffering from rust.But it seems quite hit and miss - some last absolutely fine, some are absolutely rotten by the time there 10 yrs old.
The point is - there are thousands of MX5's about - thus, its not worth buying one with ANY rust.
And if theres a tiny tiny bubble on the sill, dont let the owner tell you its just a surface spot. They rot from the inside out...
