Do the Mods provide feedback to people who have posted within a thread when posts or entire threads are deleted?
Yesterday I posted in a thread that was later deleted. I didn’t try to revisit the thread for some hours after I posted and therefore don’t know if something I said got it deleted, or if it was something someone else later said that overstepped the mark.
I’m not trying to encourage argument over the rights and wrongs; the Umpires decision should be regarded as final in all cases and no debate should be entered into.
It’s just that a little feedback would help people know if it was them, or a subsequent post. This would help them learn where the line is drawn and therefore help them avoid future transgressions.
A simple PM either saying “thread deleted due to another member” or “This is what you said that we cannot accept because” would be fine.
I suspect that what I said wasn’t the cause of the thread being pulled, but it in hindsight it may have elicited OTT comments from others. Since I didn’t try and return to the thread until after it was pulled I have no way to know.
I suspect that if I was the culprit and in serious trouble then I would already have found myself in the headmasters study. However, if I started the problem then I would prefer to know what not to do next time. I don’t think I’ve done wrong.
The gist was that in a thread entitled M.P. Babes, I mentioned the name of a candidate and the party for which she stood. I also mentioned that she although was running under her real name, she is better known under another name.
She makes no secret of the fact that she is a highly successful business woman. She owns a production company and is a film director. She is widely regarded as the leading proponent in her specialist area of the adult entertainment film industry.
I linked to a Wiki page dedicated to her. It points out that she has openly and willingly participated in TV documentaries about her work. It also confirms both her real and professional names, the name of the political party she represented and the constituency she contested. She has given interviews to national newspapers openly discussing her duel identity. The leader of the political party she represents has also made public statements acknowledging the situation.
It cannot be naming and shaming since it is a matter of acknowledged fact and already placed in the public domain by the person named. They are proud, not ashamed of the situation. Personally I don’t see anything wrong with her choice of profession.
However, I do believe that when a person chooses to stand for election the electorate are entitled to know about them. They therefore consent to becoming subject to public scrutiny. The depth of that scrutiny and knowledge is a moot point, but the electorate is entitled to know that which would have bearing upon their decision. I imagine that for some people the profession of ‘Adult films’ would represent a moral problem that would have a bearing upon their voting choice.
I don’t see that employment history, and especially current employment can be a naming and shaming matter for a parliamentary candidate.

If we delete a specific post then the user who created the post will (normally) be emailed explaining why.
When a thread is deleted, we don't email those who replied to the thread, only the person who created it. If you have done something particularly out of line on a thread though the mods will make sure that you know about it!
Just so you know, it wan't your comment/info which caused the thread to be removed.
