I live in the middle east and am looking at a 5 series , have seen a couple of 550s for sale.

Are they any good, worth the extra money over a 530?

petrol costs nothing here so not worried about consumption etc just overall how good the car is.

Thanks

I have one and rate it highly. Some will argue it is slightly nose heavier than the 530 (obviously) but I didn't buy it for sportscar purposes. It is effortlessly fast with a great engine. I would and did pay the extrasmile

Well, whilst I'm paying £1.29/ltr for Shell Optimax a big V8 daily driver isn't really an option for me right now.

But if mpg is not an issue, then 550i it is. It's that simple thumbup

I quite fancied a 550i - I see it as 1 step down from the E60 M5 which is really a stupidly expensive car to run.

The performance is good but it was noticably slower than my E39 M5 which personally I couldnt live with bearing in mind its probably twice the value of my car.

But for a rapid comfortable saloon im sure it is an excellent proposition.

You can't compare any M5 to the 550 as it has a proper auto gearbox. If the auto is not important get an M5.

I had a 530i loan car once when my then car a 535d was in being serviced...the 530i felt a bit gutless compared to the 535d. Deffo a 550i if you don't need to worry about petrol prices.
