RANGE ROVER SPORT 2.7 TDV6 HSE Auto
Discussion
thinking of changing our RR V8 petrol as we have some big miles to cover over the coming months so wondering what savings can be had by swapping to the diesel, will be sat on motorways mainly at about 90 with occasional bursts beyond, how does it compare to the V8 petrol in this situation, am I mad, does it need to be the V8 diesel?
any input appreciated

About 28mpg the motorway and about 22/24mpg around town, Unless you drive VERY carefully then you can probably add 2-3mpg to each of these.
Its not a bad engine but if you can afford the extra money for the TDV8 I would recomend this for the extra performance, though it may not be as great on fuel.
If you are talking about buying brand new the TDV6 is actually a 3.0 now and not a 2.7. This engine is a vast improvement over the 2.7 in terms of performance and is slightly better on fuel.

I drove my new 06 SLK55AMG back from Coventry to London a couple of weeks ago. Nice relaxed 85xph on motorway and a few low gear bursts in tunnels to test out the sound and it returned 26.1mpg. I am glad I purchased such a frugal car. Having said that I am considering a gas guzzling TDV8 for later in the year

Just to be slightly more on topic - I had a 2.7 diesel RR Sport last weekend as a replacement car. 3 of us popped down to Bath from Central London and then onto Southampton for a BBQ on Sunday and then back home to Central London. It returned 31mpg and we were not necessarily hanging around. Would cruise at 90xph with ease. I must say I was quite impressed. If I get one I would probably get the TDV8 but not for economy reasons - I think the diesel power delivery suits such a large vehicle.

Hasn't the new 3.0 V6 diesel rendered the TDV8 a bit unnecessary? Acceleration on paper is similar, but fuel economy is significantly better. Just wondering as I'm thinking about looking at both next year.
Theres a new TDV8 out in the autumnI had a 3.0 diesel when my TDV8 was serviced and its pretty good actually, certainly miles better than the 2.7 which I test drove and immediately dismissed when I bought mine
The 3.0 was very quick but just seemed a bit 'eager' and out of place in a big 4x4
As has been suggested I like how the car just seems suited to a big lazy grizzly V8
cheers!
